Such an important point. I think it's a long-held misconception about teachers 'clocking off' when the bell rings. The reality is very different. Another point is we can't accept it's part of the day job, we need to treasure teachers & look after them! I will listen to the episode fully, thank you!

It’s heartbreaking when students revise hard & it doesn’t pay off. A lot of study strategies feel productive: rereading, highlighting & copying. But familiarity is not evidence of learning.

Responsive Revision:
Retrieve β†’ Diagnose β†’ Act β†’ Repeat.
Close gaps through targeted retrieval practice.

Why MrBeast Gets Education Wrong (A Short Rant About a Familiar Myth) MrBeast argues that education is outdated. The idea sounds intuitive. It is also wrong. Here’s why learning is not the same as watching videos.

MrBeast says students could learn more in 5 hours than 8 with better videos.

Sounds intuitive.

Also wrong.

Learning β‰  watching something that feels clear.

A short rant on a very familiar myth

International Women's Day is 8 March 2026. I've written a book aimed at empowering women in education. Encouraging more female leaders, writers, keynote & panelists. Also offering support for working Mums in education & increasing representation. This is my contribution to an important discussion.

Using Artificial Intelligence to Enhance Mathematics Resources: Checks for understanding I will share some ideas on how I have found AI can support in checks for understanding in the secondary Mathematics classroom.

A great blog post by maths teacher Harry Zafar. He shares how he uses Gemini AI to create multiple choice questions in maths to reveal misconceptions, alongside mini whiteboards to check for understanding. Worth a read! open.substack.com/pub/harryzaf...

A lot of heated β€˜battle’ talk about parents vs schools/teachers on the SEND reform

It’s maybe worth reflecting that some people are both

Insulting me as a teacher isn’t getting rid of an enemy, it’s attacking a person you claim to speak for

This is a really good point. One of the most powerful things we could do to be more inclusive would be to reduce curriculum size so those that find learning harder get more time to learn the most important bits.

Ditching Differentiation?

"It’s fair to say that the term β€˜differentiation’ has had its day in education (or at least in England). At one point, it was considered to be an integral element of lesson planning, design and delivery to ensure all learners were involved..."

Most differentiation was paperwork theatre. Strong universal instruction, precise scaffolds, live responsiveness and structured support do the heavy lifting.

Call it adaptive teaching if you like – but don’t confuse lowered demand or three worksheets with equity

I ditched individual - differentiated 'teaching resources' many years ago in favour of adaptive teaching and haven't looked back.

Differentiation became pervasive in education, obstructive to effective teaching and learning as the long‑discredited notion of learning styles.

How drama techniques can reboot oracy teaching Oracy shouldn’t just be a tick-box exercise, says this primary teacher, who explains how incorporating approaches from acting can help pupils with literacy

Where oracy is treated as a tick-box exercise in primary, this overlooks its massive potential to support pupils' writing, says teacher Louise Gaunson, who shares tips for bringing drama into lessons

I did some voluntary supply teaching last week, I've never done supply teaching before but I was keen to have that experience. It was very difficult because of the behaviour. Behaviour really is the barrier to learning, you are absolutely spot on about how important it is!

Nothing improves a school more, for both results and day-to-day well-being, than getting behaviour right. Leaders who neglect behaviour management damage staff, pupils, and the whole culture, and they leave chaos behind them.
