The maw of the serpent wraps around the body of the prey, and the prey is happy. The prey slides into the heat of its throat, and the prey is happy. The prey is bound in the stomach of the serpent, and the prey is happy. The prey becomes one with the body of the serpent, and the prey is happy.

And so, yes, when the time comes for the serpent to have its meal, the prey succumbs to ecstasy. It has a higher purpose, to feed the serpent with its body. To be devoid of self, devoid of mind, and filled instead with raw, throbbing energy, given freely to its new home.

Then, and only then, will the prey be finally at peace.

The prey needs to be prey, more than anything, more than it needs to eat or to drink or to see a doctor when it is sick. It needs to be devoured, to be enraptured by this beast and swallowed whole, to become nourishment for its divine form, fat upon its scales, muscle upon its back.

So it plays, eyes spinning and coils stretching, kneading the weak, frail body of the prey until it has completely broken to the will of its captor. And the prey adores the sensation, writhing with pleasure at every stroke of the tail, whimpering with need at every pulse of color in its eyes.

After all, it’s not as though the prey will mind, will it? The snake has already captured it. Why shouldn’t it get to play with its food? It needs the warmth as much as the meal.

At this point, it is perhaps the simplest thing on Earth for the snake to devour its prey. But the snake doesn’t. It insists on playing with them, dancing around their body, captivating their mind. Giving them a sense of peace, of purpose, of elation at the thought of being bound.

From there, it is effortless for a serpent to snatch up the gaze of its prey. A flash of color, a quiet hiss. That’s all it takes, really. The victim is mesmerized.

Coils have a way of flexing in between the folds of a prey’s body. They contort themselves, tie themselves in knots, wind and bind around the form of their victim until they are entirely paralyzed—not by their own muscles, but simply by the strength of their captor.
