𝗜𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹: in the early hours of New Year’s Day 1919, 280 island servicemen were returning home from World War 1 when HMY Iolaire struck rocks a mile from Stornoway Harbour and only a few yards offshore. 205 men died.

May 2010. The Post Office had ceased trading by then and was in the process of being turned into ‘POST’ – a little shop of curiosities.
This little former post office building is no more – it was demolished about 10 years ago.
