RTW brought instructional supplies to Arise & Shine in Kenya this week. Storybooks (English & Swahili), posters, puzzles, & paper. Teacher Jacqueline entertained the learners reading "Manu the Monkey." They made important connections between background knowledge and new vocabulary.

At Arise & Shine in rural Nyamila, RTW provided classroom book sets so every learner can participate.
In this class of 38 last year, the students shared three books. Now everyone reads!
Until we use the language we really mean, no amount of culturally responsive teaching will work. Whiteness supersedes culture in application.
