A rough stone monument sitting on sand, with grass behind it. On the stone is the following inscription: (Relief of a musket and powder horn) Line of the Minutemen April 19, 1775 Stand your ground don't fire unless fired upon but if they mean to have a war let it begin here Captain Parker
First Parish Church, as seen from the Lexington Battle Green, behind bright red fall trees. Only the steeple of the church is visible, and is very tall, slender, and white.
Famous statue from the Lexington Battle Green. A minuteman stands with his musket atop a pile of stones. A bed of flowers decorates the bottom. A little behind stands a flagpole with an American flag visible.
As the British retreated back to Boston, they met sporadic resistence, including this gentleman in what is now Arlington. The picture is of a carved stone monument with the following inscription: Near this spot Samuel Wittemore then 80 years old killed three British soldiers April 19, 1775. He was shot bayoneted beaten and left for dead, but recovered and lived to be 98 years of age. Behind the stone is a path leading to a white colonial-style house.
Some very old phone photos from my time living in Lexington and Arlington, MA, for no particular reason.

Wilson was known for his exceptional musical talent, deep knowledge of the blues, and his distinctive high tenor voice. He was a key figure in the band's success, contributing significantly to their signature sound and iconic songs like "On the Road Again" and "Going Up the Country."
Alan Wilson was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and developed a passion for music at a young age. He became fascinated with the blues after hearing a friend play a Muddy Waters record. He taught himself to play harmonica and guitar, inspired by Little Walter and John Lee Hooker, respectively. Wilson co-founded Canned Heat with Bob Hite in Los Angeles. The band quickly gained recognition for their authentic blues sound, psychedelic rock influences, and high-energy performances. Wilson's unique vocal style, particularly his high tenor, and his mastery of the harmonica and slide guitar became central to their sound.
Wilson's nickname, "Blind Owl," stemmed from his extreme nearsightedness and the thick glasses he wore. Beyond music, Wilson was a passionate conservationist and dedicated to environmental protection. He established a conservation fund to purchase land for Redwood National Park.
Wilson was pictured on a motorcycle for a Rolling Stone photoshoot in 1968. There are also accounts of him posing on his Harley at Woodstock in 1969. Wilson was a passionate blues historian and musician, known for his unique tenor voice and skill with the harmonica and slide guitar. He tragically died at the age of 27 from an accidental barbiturate overdose in 1970. He is often cited as a member of the "27 Club," a group of influential musicians who died at that age.
Remembering Alan Christie "Blind Owl" Wilson, born July 4, 1943, in Arlington, MA (d. September 3, 1970). Wilson (guitarist, harmonica player) co-founded the Topanga Canyon-based blues-rockers Canned Heat, and wrote most of their original songs, a few of which he also sang lead. More: alt text

A good thing about getting vegetables at Wilson Farm up in Lexington is that they also carry Moxie in glass bottles, so every once in a while I get myself a treat while grocery shopping.

It's been 11 years and this image still haunts me. We must do more to ensure our most vulnerable townspeople can get around safely on foot.
