I wanted an HDMI switch that I could control from my PC for cheap. This 5 port had a remote on a 3.5mm jack connected to an IR receiver so I thought that would be easy to do a replay attack on. One trip down the rabbit hole of IR remote control protocols and this Arduino can now change the channel!

That'll do for some soldering practice. This is the uSMD board (github.com/arthurbenema...), small caps are 008004 = blooming small. Yes, there's loads of space and generous footprints but still a decent challenge. 0805 resistor at top for scale

Why could I possibly want to redesign an Ali Express DCDC 3 times? I'll be talking at the RSGB Convention on the importance of switch mode power supply PCB layout in a month's time. Would be great to see you if you're around.

I suggest watching "The Mummy" (original version) as it's probably your closest source of inspiration!

Just be aware that the mating force on a 3 pin will be very low and it could come off easily so think about strain relief if you're putting it up a mast / on your 8m EME dish ;)

Looks like generic 0.1" (2.54mm) pin header. Sometimes called Dupont but that normally doesn't get results when searching suppliers. If you're Cambridge way soon, you're welcome to raid my shack, I've got loads. Alternatively, they're often at rallies or something like amzn.eu/d/7WXX9aZ if desperate

And with a bit more faff, now my multimeter has Ethernet too! Not bad for an evening - yes it could all be nicer if I'd designed a board but then I'd have never got around to it!

PSU dragged into the modern era by adding a (horribly hacky) Arduino Ethernet to RS232 adapter. Now all my older test kit can be accessed by any machine rather than "the special raspberry pi plugged into everything"
