@wileynickel.com how many days into your term did you have a local office and phone number? Knott has neither as of now. No replies to multiple electronic correspondence. Senators were copied on those messages/sent via democracy.io and responded with the usual non-answer boilerplate.

3 letters to my senators/rep and the # of replies:
#richardburr 3
#thomtillis 1
#bradknott 0
3rd was sent end of February

The party of business and efficiency can't send boiler plate party line replies to all constituents: should they be allowed to legislate?

Eligible voters who do not vote...statistics might say voters are a representative sample and the entire population would have similar proportions. If we forced them to vote, they might just pick at random or could be manipulated. Maybe it's a good thing they don't vote and aren't forced?

Anyone wondering who is going to pay for identity theft insurance or protection services from the credit bureaus incidental to #DOGE activities when they inevitably get hacked?

Turns out it was a software issue. How the F do you manage to introduce a bug like this on a simple on-off sensor input in what should be a simple module of code that’s likely library functions? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Fire Elon and cronies from #DOGE. Bring in the process team from Chick-Fil-A (ignoring the religious aspect). They know what they are doing in terms of process refinement. We have a Tesla, I’m a car guy and they are not the hot $hit you have been lead to believe. See my previous posts on them.

My first order was in 1997.
#Amazon made it difficult to get prorated refund, so Pause/Cancel it is. Delayed gratification makes me think before spending, too. #Canada seems to be doing a much better job than us at voting with their wallet with immediate impact.

2024 Model Y 5k miles #teslafail frunk is definitely closed but sensor thinks it’s open. No secondary latch like a conventional hood. Car knows the sensor is bad because it never opened it. Drive with it open & your hood/windshield go β€œboom”. Failed sensor alerts you constantly the whole drive. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

So, #InfoSec guys, when are we going to push for a real national ID system with some actual security? My SSN became public knowledge this year thanks to the NPD breach. SSN was "overloaded" by business for decades when the card itself used to have printed on it "not for identification use"...

To the hardcore "everyone must present ID to vote in every state" are you ready for next level election security?

"Yes, we are!"

What if the #InfoSec analysis is that state ID is inadequate for and you must present a national ID to vote for President?

"No! Our freedom! Government overreach!"

Racecar is my day to day automotive palindrome...that is, a street-legal one, which is good for smiles for every mile of fuel converted to the cacophony of high revolutions per minute and the sensations of acceleration and cornering grip...boring highway miles gladly handed over to a FSD system...

Not directed specifically at you and your choices, Nate but just a thought in even more general terms of #voteyourwallet and doing what I can to stop enabling our corporate overlords...

More general/unpopular opinion: maybe we need to rethink our media consumption and step away from the screens? Studios are pumping out so much "garbage" content vs. what's actually worth our time. I think back to when we rented media. 8+ on IMDB (probably exceptions for us SciFi enthusiasts).

I see knee-jerk hate and miseducation on topics that are not even political of nature on here. Humility and Dunning-Kruger effect is likely the biggest problem to tackle. Is there a way to get folks to check their level of understanding on a topic before tapping a pithy reply on the keyboard...

Those of us who have been on the Internet since oh, 1994, can remember when you had to write long form and mind your grammar/spelling to have a discussion on any topic. They were more civil back then, even when dealing with members having polar opposite opinions but willing to listen and fact check.

@bsky.app curious to see how your lean team of 20 is going to tackle the uninformed overwhelming righteous information/discourse with incorrect information. This seems like "the" problem to solve in this information age, especially with "short form" social media and "everyone" on the Internet...

Downloading over modem was free...heck, probably a good amount of my floppy collection were next to nothing, almost free w/rebates or relabeled AOL disk! In retrospect, I did a LOT of things "myself" where I should have paid someone else, but then you don't have those experiences to talk about.

The dedicated 4U? Not in while. The Mac Pro can be racked. The software was like $30 at some point and went to discontinued and relevant components have been absorbed into core MacOS. What that app used to provide they have a FAQ to point you to third party alternatives.

OS/2 and BeOS were incredible performers. UNIX/Linux as well, once installation was something an average user could tackle. Alas, just abut every "Beta" attempting to unseat the juggernaut "VHS" of Microsoft lost out, despite being technically better.

I can't remember if I got the disk images off a BBS or via ftp to the SunOS box the local medical school granted us dial-up terminal access to <gasp> using X/Y/Z Modem to download. First commercial Linux CD I got my hands on was some flavor of Red Hat they gave out at a campus Comp Sci event.

Download 1.44MB image on 14.4k modem, write image to disk, label disk. Repeat 70? times. Installed to separate hard drive so I could keep DOS/Windows on the shared family computer. Then there was the tuning of the X config for your CRT! 😳 People have it easy these days!

Slackware Linux on 3.5" floppies ~1994. Linux is WAY better 30 years later but it still has its foibles. I have Windows, BSD and Linux VMs and have used OS/2, BeOS, and many others over the years...but MacOS is my daily-driver desktop ~2005 because I want something that "just works".

Children are taught, for safety, to listen to and not question their parents as ultimate authority figures. This works exceptionally well for hot stoves, sharp knives and "stranger danger". It fails miserably for politics, religion, morals, respect for fellow humans, and the list goes on...

#teslafail FSD (with no destination selected, otherwise navigation will keep wanting to make non-existent turns) continues on the NC 540 extension "off the map" for maybe 2 minutes without incident. At some random point, it panicked and forced immediate takeover with clear highway ahead.

#DOGE run by Elon Musk: the 540 extension in NC finally opened on 9/25/2024. IIRC, Apple, Google & Waze all showed it on their maps as "under construction" and opening day, directions would route you using it, if you allow tolls. 2 months later, our 2024 Tesla Y acts as if it doesn't exist. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
