Yes the game frequency shapes a lot. It's that high because for all players except the pitcher a game is just not all that physically demanding. So pitchers are conserved as a limited resource and everyone else plays every day.

My only complaint there is that Luthen's competence was steeply undermined by him not having a more effective method than a dagger handy. Poison pills are common for people in that situation, and given his normally very capable tradecraft, this was clumsy.

Yes I agree with this entirely. The vast majority of the ongoing work around passkeys is about trying to have not-terrible ways of covering these edge cases that users know how to manage with passwords.

i.e. Key storage and the challenge protocol were not the hard parts.
