As an update, I can open the DMs in my office in Detroit, which is literally an hour north of my home.

I could drive 20 minutes from home and be in Michigan, where I can read my DMs without giving sketchy third parties access to my ID.

The genius behind the bill is of the option that it doesn't apply to X (nee Twitter), and X has far more offensive content than Bluesky has ever considered allowing.

So again, why the hell are you doing this.

It is very obvious that this is less of a means to protect children and much more a project to collect sensitive user data to sell towards a facist government that wishes to silence opposing voices by all means. You are thus making your platform less safe for everyone.

There is a button to go to account settings, and then a message beneath which reads "Don't worry! I'm a grown-ass woman, 39 years old, and I'm being prevented from accessing my DMs because the @bsky.app folks are cowards who capitulated in advance to the assholes in Columbus who shoehorned a "pRoTeCt ThE cHiLdReN!" addendum into the fucking budget.
