German Soccer Club Cancels Signing of Israeli Striker Over anti-Gaza Social Media Posts
Fortuna DΓΌsseldorf announced it would not sign Shon Weissman, a striker for the Israeli national team, after fans criticized the move just hours after it was reported, citing messages he shared following the October 7 Hamas attack
Weissman also liked and shared posts calling to "wipe Gaza off the map," suggesting there were "no innocents" in the Strip, and responding to a photo of two detained Palestinian militants by writing, "Why the hell aren't they being shot in the head?"
You absolutely LOVE to see it:
Thanks to fan backlash, a German football club is cancelling the signing of an Israeli striker who shared posts after Oct 7 calling to "wipe Gaza off the map" and suggesting there were "no innocents" in the Gaza Strip.

Can't fault the clarity of Labour's message on protest. There are BAD protesters who must be punished (Irish musicians, anti-genocide vicars) and there are GOOD protesters whose views deserve respect (masked thugs with petrol bombs trying to start a pogrom)

VAR has turned out exactly how most football people expected it to, except the people running football, who thought it was a good idea. Nothing is surprising about the incompetence of football administrators.

I respectfully contend that this is the best seat on the bus.

I'm busy changing energy suppliers. We have two smart meters, but the process requires meter readings provided by the account holder. I'm now fully trained in the mystic arts of pressing buttons to reveal the appropriate figures (albeit they flash into view momentarily like a burlesque fan dancer).

Yes, but bars must dispense in certain unit categories, and they can't be certain unless the vessel has the appropriate mark. I've just been off looking at all of this, and it seems that there is no obligation on a licensee to provide a cup or glass, just an obligation to give you a certain amount.

No. It's a "souvenir to be reused". And a "proportion" of the Β£2 goes to charity. It's very strange.

First round, a pint for me, half pint for Mrs H. Drinks Β£7.30 and Β£3.70 respectively, plus a Β£2 non refundable charge for a solid plastic cup. Second round, the same drinks but with no cup charge. The more I think about it, the stranger it seems.

Not sure that the Space venue have got the German Pfand idea sorted. Β£2 charge for a cup, but it's a charity donation, not a deposit. Doesn't encourage a quick drink before a show. #Fringe

The opening sentences of a book which read as follows.
No one knows how many football fans there are. World Cup USA 1994 Inc. has put out a booklet claiming that the TV audience for the Italian World Cip was 25.6 billion (five times the world's population) and that 31 billion are expected to watch the American World Cup.
I have a huge book pile. So huge that it's taken until now for me to read Football Against The Enemy written by Simon Kuper in 1994. The first few sentences are quite funny in the context of next year's World Cup.
