Last week, I attended a TWAIL conference organized by Profs. Sylvia Bawa & Okafor at @osgoode.bsky.social. Participants spanned the generations. So inspiring to meet so many of my intellectual heroes in the flesh, and to hear interventions from brilliant students. It felt like coming home.

Thanks to Marko Milanovic for this accurate analysis of the illegality of the US aggression, and this important call to colleagues: "we all know it’s illegal. Just like we did with Iraq in 2003 or Ukraine in 2022." Post at www.ejiltalk.org/the-illegal-...

"The lack of any effective legal constraints on the president is not just a problem for the balance of power and national security of the United States. It is now a problem for the world...setting an example of lawlessness that has the power to reshape the global legal order"

I was honored to join the CERD Committee's panel on legal obligations to make reparations for transatlantic slavery this week, convened by the inimitable Gay McDougall at Palais de Wilson. Privileged to share the floor with Drs. Castellino & Babington-Ashaye and to hear so many insights!

Thrilled to finally see this piece published in the Fordham International Law Journal! My article explores how CARICOM states can bring unjust enrichment claims against institutions that profited from transatlantic chattel slavery. Many thanks to the dedicated student editors!

Pax Americana: How Not to Hide an Empire Reconsidering Pax Americana and why the international order worth fighting for is a radically different world altogether.

As someone who’s always been critical of Pax Americana, I’m nevertheless terrified by how swiftly it is ending. A thoughtful essay (and great reading list!) by the brilliant @matiangai.bsky.social is a guide on how to keep dreaming (and working) in this moment. www.justsecurity.org/108311/how-n...

I was proud to join legislators and advocates for the introduction of landmark slavery acknowledgement leg. at the IL State Capitol yesterday. HB 1227 would require companies to disclose links to slavery and let us confront our history with honesty. Thanks Rep. Harper and Sen. Ammons. Onward!
