07.02.2026 00:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My #BlackHistoryMonth. My paternal grandparents, Antoinette Wilhelmina Sanches and James Johannes Gordijk. Both born in Suriname, in 1897 and 1887 respectively, and they started their family in Guyana. James' father, Frederik Willem Gordijk, was born into slavery in 1859. He died in 1938.

01.02.2026 16:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I can't offer any perspective on being a #Wilmot councillor. As a former resident, I'm willing to prepare any "diverse" candidates for community reactions, including copies of police reports, integrity commissioner's reports, racist emails, anonymous letters mailed to my home, and blog posts.

I love the show Slow Horses, so Cher gave me the first novel in the series. The kids got me a gift card for Wordsworth Books (I've already chosen what I'm going to buy - covers #2 and #3), and my frolleague gave me a gift card for Old Goat Books (#4).
I'll have to ask my boss for a few weeks off...
One more day to register a claim against Loblaws for bread price fixing. You don't need to provide any receipts.

Doug Ford is a jobs disaster and these new numbers make that clearer than ever. Ontario lost thousands of manufacturing jobs last month, and the province led the entire country in losses in wholesale and retail trade. Families are feeling the hit in every community. #onpoli
05.12.2025 22:39 β π 22 π 10 π¬ 1 π 2December 6, 1989: An armed man killed 14 women and injured 13 other people at Γcole Polytechnique. Fuelled by misogyny, he claimed he was "fighting feminism". We must never forget the horror of that day. I'm honoured to be joined by community leaders to name the victims. #CallItFemicide

02.12.2025 16:57 β π 8 π 14 π¬ 0 π 0I was honoured to pay tribute to former MPP Mike Farnan in the presence of his family at Queen's Park today. Mike passed away earlier this year after a lifetime in the service of others. He served with integrity, charm, warmth, and a strong sense of humour. He will be missed by many.

I went to The Canada Lecture on Citizenship by Tanya Talaga at KPL tonight, & I bought one of her books, which she signed. Great timing!

Chair of the police civilian board wants a pat on the back because in 2023, the WRPS started measuring its disproportionate use of force against racialized people. In the meantime, he also wants to increase funding to hire more of the police whose disproportionate use of force is being measured π€·π»ββοΈ
