Africa’s forests have joined the Brazilian Amazon and Australian forests in becoming carbon sources rather than sinks. Around 2010 the previous storage of our carbon emissions flipped, mainly through deforestation and degradation.

Het aandeel sociale huurwoningen dat naar statushouders gaat is de afgelopen jaren licht toegenomen. Dat komt niet omdat er meer woningen naar statushouders gaan, maar omdat er minder sociale huur beschikbaar komt.

Het aantal nieuwe toewijzingen daalde nl van 224.000 in 2025 naar 166.000 in 2023

De hoeveelheid aandacht die naar statushouders gaat is krankzinnig. Even wat cijfers:
- jaarlijks gaan +/- 15.000 corporatiewoningen naar statushouders
- totaal verhuringen door corporaties: 166.000
- totaal mutaties hele woningvoorraad (koop+huur): +/- 525.000-550.000 woningen (schatting)

What makes me even more happy, is that my good friend and co-author Rowan Arundel also receives a Vidi-grant! Being in exactly the same career phase and working on a similar topic (housing) at the same department, we often compete for the same grants.

This was my fourth time pitching (a version of) this research proposal, getting rejected twice at the ERC (both starting and consolidator grant) and the previous NWO Vidi-round. Great that it finally made it. Many thanks for all those that helped me with the proposal the past two years or so
