Great work, Erin!
24.09.2024 20:29 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Break your writing tasks down into teeny tiny parts. That way when you're sitting down to work, you're not writing a whole paper or book, you're writing a specific paragraph or section.
01.09.2024 17:40 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0last year the NYT had a story about class and college admissions. I posted this graphic about the thing we talk about and the thing we don't even have a name for.

I wasn't talking about open science advocates. I said "some people" by whom I meant many of the people whom I regularly encounter (students, colleagues). My understanding was that you were writing about the limitations of preregistration and I didn't see that limitation represented in the comments
03.02.2024 17:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I totally agree with this perspective and do not think that it undermines the value of preregistration n general. But, it shouldn't reduce our skepticism of findings that are too good to be true, just because they are preregistered.
03.02.2024 17:18 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Some people see preregistration as a panacea for many/most of the problems in science. I don't think it would stop a Stapel-type person. So, while I think it is generally beneficial for most scholars, it is limited when it comes to fraud
03.02.2024 16:58 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A limitation of preregistration is that it doesn't prevent malicious actors from publishing questionable research. A motivated scholar could submit multiple preregistrations and only report the one that best matches their results. We still need to be vigilant when we see results that are surprising.

For those of you who at schools with graduate programs in psychology, do you require the GRE? If not, what criteria do you primarily rely on when accepting grad students? GPA? Post-Bac research experience? Rec letters?
12.10.2023 19:55 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Before you get mad at bad regression in psychology, you should know that the majority of US states and towns based their minimum required parking laws on these graphs. The result was the sprawling concrete hellscapes that dominate the US today. Some analyses had just 2 data points! #statsky

10.10.2023 23:22 β π 12 π 8 π¬ 0 π 1I tell them that if the study involves a p-value, then there is a probability that the finding is wrong (e.g., a Type I error). Thus we shouldn't use a word like 'prove'
