Friendly reminder from a therapist and SA survivor: If you are someone who has survived abuse, don't let anyone discount your experience by imposing their own experiences or opinions on you. "They might try to say it wasn't that bad but it shouldn't have been bad to begin with."

Abuse is horrible. In addition, survivors of SA and of domestic violence are often pressured to justify themselves and their experiences. This can be as traumatizing, and often more traumatizing, than the actual abuse that they survived in the first place. Believe survivors.

Please do not discount an SA survivor's experiences. We readily accept that any other kind of trauma is real. Why can't we accept that SA trauma is real? Why are we so quick to discount those experiences?
