Also if you don't make porn, they're already going back to defining being LGBTQ+ obscene and pornographic. They'll do that to everything they don't like.

to be clear, the goal here isn't to outlaw pornography- the goal is to create a ton of felons they can imprison and turn into labour that the rest of puritanical society won't give a shit about, and deem things related to minorities/leftists/intellectuals as "bad" so they can ostracize them

Meanwhile, here in Maine, AI crawlers have rendered the server that manages our statewide interlibrary loan unreachable by legitimate attempts to pass through requests/information

Again, but louder: the server can’t be reached by libraries and the folks trying to use them BECAUSE OF AI CRAWLERS.

Admittedly, it's really hard to get multiplayer footage for trailers due to trying to get all four players to cooperate.

You would think this would lead to super silly situations but no... it's just them looking dumb...

At least there are a large amount of archives of the site, so at least a small fraction of the old site is still there to admire.

It sad the state of affairs the site is in now days. Despite all the quips about it being a fetishy, weird site, this was a place many people grew up with, found friends, made lovely art, and much more. I wish things could have went differently, for it and the internet as a whole.

The decline of Deviantart from a genuinely great place to browse and share art into what it is now is genuinely tragic.

If Disney think it's too risky to use, then other companies will (hopefully) follow suit.

Unfortunately, without any attempt from governments to crack down on genAI, this was always going to be what it took for it to be shown the door.

(8/8) The web is a husk, the people you once knew are gone, the website you once loved are shells of there former selves, and the eyes of the hungry tigers are watching you, waiting for you to make one. wrong. move.

(7/8) The worst part is, many will grow up in this web. They will think this is the norm, they won't know that the web was once a place of creativity, or privacy, a place where you could be, say, or do almost anything. They will live in a restricted, restrained web that demands obedience.

(6/8) ..radical ideas. This is only the start of a campaign to completely police the web and criminalize basic human privacy. You can't say anything controversial or make negative statements about your governments.

(5/8) ...to censor the web and invade on your privacy. While true anonymity was never real, these bills have completely stripped away any sense of privacy you had. Big Brother is watching, closer than ever. He wants to know everything you do, he wants to "protect you" from yourself, or getting any..

(4/8) The Third and likely final death, the true death of the web was when the EU passed the Online Safety Act. The moment that bill was put into place requiring the collection of user's IDs has make governments and private corporations go into overdrive for passing bills and enforcing rules...

(3/8) The second death was when AI LLMs became mainstream. These LLMs taking and gorging off the entire web and spitting it back out, exponentially increasing the size of the web with little substance and human interaction. The majority of the web is now bots, crawling and ingesting information.

(2/8) The first death of the web was when smart phones were invented. Smart phones made the web no longer a place you went, but a norm in life, they encouraged minimal flat design and killed off small websites where now 5 social media titans take up the majority of the web's "human" traffic.

(1/8) You know how they say you die twice, once when you physically pass away, and again once your name is spoken for the last time? The Internet is kinda like that, in the sense that it dies multiple times, I'd say it's died 3 times.

I think it needs to be pointed out as well that Visa is clearly losing money off these calls clogging their systems and still thought it was worth the money to re-train their employees/contractors. They're not scared enough to drop the issue altogether, people need to keep calling and snail-mailing.

The fact it only took roughly 1,000 calls from Collective Shout for MasterCard and Visa to start pulling this shit, and that we're well over 1,000 calls at least opposed to this bullshit should prove that payment processers agree with this stuff at an executive level, they just needed the push.

Unfriendly reminder:

Keep calling your Congressmen about stopping KOSA and SCREEN dead in their tracks.

Keep calling Visa, Mastercard, Paypal and Stripe.

This is why it's so important that we keep the pressure on. What we lack in money and powerful friends we make up for in our numbers and loudness. They want everything so we must give them nothing now.
