Ok that is hilarious. It’s a catch 22 you can get rid of all of it and pay for sound treatment or just leave it and enjoy the benefits.

I like your view. The people faking it know what they’re doing. In the case of technical shredders I’m skeptical with miming to the camera if I’ve never heard them play live.

Someone playing backstage is diabolical 😆 at that point just take the loss and use a backing track

I like this take and agree. If I see some scruffy teen in a garage while I’m scrolling I just want to hear that line 6 spider II “metal” tone while they play.

Totally agree with all your takes. With social media I understand the appeal of not wanting room noise in the recording but that’s why knowing some audio basics comes in clutch.

What do you define as “fake” guitar playing?

In a studio environment we know everything is going to be stacked, edited and modulated.

Music videos will often be mimed.

Social media? Is it dishonest to use recorded audio to a synced video?

Live? Should be live right?

I had it that way for maybe 3 months before a buddy pointed out my mistake and we downtuned it and did a truss rod adjustment and it was good. That was on an Ibanez sound gear too.

Did it with a 5 string one time because I didn’t know the B string was low. So I tuned it EADGB instead of BEADG

Because of the character limit and the lack of nuance on short form posts I’ll add that any form of bigotry is unacceptable and I am quick to block and move on when I come across it on my feed.

Working an event tonight and the host made a joke about people coming to the screening instead of watching the State of the Union Address.

I feel like watching a movie is probably better for this audiences mental health.

What a weird pointer. Some people have no business giving their input let alone managing the entertainment business.

Right? Anything at a venue or performance is mortifyingly rude.

I once made the mistake of telling a musician I went to school with “great show I loved it except the vocals sounded like shit in the mix”

He rightfully gave me a piece of his mind and I never did something like that again.

Some rando coming up and offering advice after a gig is irritating.

A musician who isn’t open to any form of constructive criticism is also irritating.

The middle path is a musician who can end conversations quickly with those who offer unsolicited advice and seeks advice from those they admire.

I’m prone to getting lost in thought. Being able to intellectualize the world makes my monkey mind happy.

In the past 5 years what I strive for is putting my knowledge into practice.

That’s pretty cool. I think it’s intriguing when actors pick up an instrument for a role. Two notable examples are Joaquin Phoenix picking up guitar for Walk the Line and Ryan Gosling playing piano for Lalaland.

It’s his arms and hands for the kid playing guitar too right? 😆

There have been singles I’ve enjoyed of course. I’m not immune to catchy pop songs but yeah pretty bland when it comes to the substance.

You know I saw it once as a kid and the shred off blew me away but I’m sure the film itself has aged like milk.

The usual response I heard is that they just didn’t “understand” the whole thing 🤦‍♂️
