I love Jesus, people, and learning. I'm especially passionate about math education and education for democracy.

Would love to see the small group tutoring research from the transformative tutoring initiative at the university of Oklahoma featured here

Based on my research and context, this may be an overgeneralization. I agree that WCN ideals (exclusion and hierarchy) may conflict directly with teachers' commonly held values (care and inclusion), I can confidently say that these groups would not be exclusive. These teachers do exist.

Thank you for this article! This presented the issue through a different lens. Would you say schools aimed at bringing Americans together is a worthwhile aim? How does this compare with education for democracy? What would you say is the perceived goal of public education today?

I really want to know how this translates to teaching. Do Christian Nationalist teachers' classrooms have common qualities? What about their approach to teaching/classroom management and the way they position themselves with their students? The classroom as a micro-culture could be a revealing case

How does this statement compare, "Math is political. Always has been?"

I feel silly asking, but this is my first time. Would responding to this non-denial denial be an appropriate time to use the term gaslighting?

Sometimes my reluctant communicators are more willing to talk about why someone or something is wrong. In math this looks like, "How do you know x+7=x is wrong?" In this situation, maybe show a profile of someone and ask, "How do you know 'George' will not get hired for this job?

Sometimes! The examples this semester shared some vague goals. "I want more confidence in teaching math." I find we aren't always aware of what we need or don't know. I'd like to help broaden and enrich their perspectives and promote a disposition toward reflectiveness and iterative growth.

I agree completely. I try to minimize the number of critiques/suggestions I give and maximize the encouragement. Do you limit the substantive critiques? The students I find the most resistant are the ones that are very confident in their own teaching practice and can articulate their strengths.

Check out the MAGA version of this in Oklahoma. New Social Studies standards were introduced that require students learn about inconsistencies and concerns in the 2020 election. Great example of the hypocrisy.

#iteachmath What suggestions do you have for developing PSTs receptiveness to feedback? My strategies are only somewhat effective. Some students seem discouraged or overwhelmed no matter what I do.

That's a nice parallel. My students repeat the "learning styles" thing often.

I want my PSTs to see students need flexibility for fluency. I'm thinking about "mode of transportation" as a better metaphor. Different modes work best for different situations. Walking is the most rudimentary strategy, but it's also the most efficient sometimes.

#iteachmath My PSTs often say "teach multiple strategies so every student can find the one that works for them," as if there's a "find your true love" approach to computation. You need to date around and then marry the "right one." I'd like to challenge this thinking. What's your approach?

I would like to know more about what you imagine this could look like! I like the exhibit "Pi Shop" at Science museum of Oklahoma for kids. The museum also features fractal art. I considered making a math scavenger hunt for students if I take a group again.

And also tracing other paths of influence. I'm curious about the influence of Christian nationalism in K-12 pedagogy.

A a parent, I've had to say, "I respect your classroom decisions, but I believe this is not good for him. We will accept consequences of lower grades and missed rewards so that he doesn't have to experience the consequences of timed tests. If you could provide alternatives, we would appreciate it

Why is it that everyone agrees K-12 math should be taught in ways that are relevant and meaningful to students, but when those ways include real life issues of inequality or discrimination or injustice, teachers are told to stay in their lane and stick to the math?

I notice that ratio of head:body has decreased over time. I wonder if baby sauce cat is closer to 2 packets long or 3 packets long. I wonder what its sauce packet weight is and how the ratio of weight growth compares to length growth. I wonder if sauce cat is done growing.
