Texas crypto Roundup: Mark Cuban, a state Rep. gets into lobbying, and more State lawmakers and lobbyists have been pushing for years to transform the state into a crypto capital.

At one year, Kimberly Tolbert faces Dallas’ defining question: Fix City Hall or move? The stakes have never been higher. While the final decision of what happens to City Hall lies with the City Council, how it is delivered falls upon her.

The unspoken of this article. Tolbert is doing a lot of heavy lifting typically handled by Dallas mayors. www.dallasnews.com/news/2026/01...

The city is about to lose two major employers and also one or both major sports teams, so this is how the Mayor of Dallas spends his time.

Editor fail. Which “Dallas officials” provided the updates? To whom and where were these updates to the reporters yesterday?

Banking giant UBS to open new national hub in Dallas Banking and wealth management giant UBS will open a new hub in Uptown Dallas dedicated to its new approach towards financial advisor training.

Beware of local media pushing the “y’all st” angle on any unremarkable financial news. In this case, UBS is neither moving a business unit or high paid execs to Dallas. They simply leased more real estate for their training facility, which is here b/c of airports. www.dallasnews.com/business/rea...

Dallas in name only: City delays another Wings facility as concern grows from WNBA team Neither the team’s arena nor the practice facility will be ready until 2027, Wings CEO Greg Bibb said.

The proposed Dallas Wings practice facility, which is funded somehow with Prop A $ promised for Fair Park, has been delayed because the city is struggling to plan the new Convention Center, whose estimated costs are unknown. www.dallasnews.com/sports/wings...

DMN just posted a new interview by Tom Leppert with this guy which makes a lot of sense if you’re familiar with Leppert beyond his corporate speak persona, and it says a lot about the guy who oversees DMN’s contributing columnists.

The biggest tragedy of a city hall teardown? It’s not losing an IM Pei building that doesn’t need to be replaced. It’s the possibility of giving away valuable real estate to people damaging our democracy and/or have a history of bad place making in Dallas.

4/ Remember, the downtown we have now is Ray Hunt’s legacy. He extracted billions in tax breaks and investments over decades from The City for his land downtown, but Dallas has little show for its $. Downtown’s best recent successes are small/fast, not big and splashy.

3/ Also notice the first mention of lowering the height of old skyscrapers (Washburne) or outright removal of these buildings. These are interesting ideas and probably where Downtown Dallas is headed now that Uptown is now “downtown.”

2/ See also Matthews’s claim about potential office conversions later debunked in the article. Or Washburne’s claim that turning around downtown is “easy.” A few months ago he said we need a mayor with vision for downtown. Sounds like he has the vision. These guys are totally full of shit.

1/ No one at The City or media will name the $ interests driving the City Hall tear down, but this informative article seems to imply Ray Washburne and Jack Matthews are locked in. Based on their exaggerations and lies here, their vision looks like a sink hole. www.dallasnews.com/business/rea...

How Dallas has been left to rot as companies flee for greener pastures America's 37th-biggest company announced on Monday that it would be slowly abandoning its Downtown Dallas campus to move to a new complex.

Terrible reporting, but how here is how downtown Dallas is being presented to the world. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article...

At some point, we must reckon with the fact that present-day downtown Dallas is the result of 25+ years of the city overinvesting in Southwest downtown with minimal ROI at the behest of B_G Real Estate. This is on them - their vision- but they’ll never be held accountable.

Nothing changes when you call out “city hall” vs specific people and policies. Also, the primary drivers for the move are cost savings, low performance and the command/comtrol CEO. Crime is not #1. The move was cinched when the CEO ended WFH. www.dallasnews.com/opinion/edit...

Mayor Johnson and City Mgr Tolbert said AT&T is moving to Plano because the company wants to build horizontal. The only problem with that talking point is the HQ2 bid included 50+acre locations in Dallas including at Reunion.

I assure you no major financial firms from NYC are planning to move to the City of Dallas anytime soon. You might see a few major firms continue with labor arbitrage (eg Goldman) in DFW for operational jobs. The high paying jobs stay in NYC.
