The anti-Muslim propaganda was sickening, as if Mamdani would immediately order all New York City women to wear burqas or as if he was responsible for 9/11.

Minnesota was a case in point. Of course there were covid deaths in the Twin Cities, but the most right-wing counties had per capita death rates four to five times as high as the metropolitan area.

Most of the negative remarks come from people who don't live in NY. Others lament that young people have "forgotten" 9/11. News flash: Most of today's high school and college students weren't even born in 2001, as hard as it is to believe for those of us who were sentient humans at the time.

There seems to be a method behind this anomaly. Many of the posts are on the order of "9/11 occurred in New York City, so how could they possibly elect a Muslim mayor?" Never mind that the hijackers were all from Saudi Arabia and Mamdani is of Indian ancestry who was in grade school in NY in 2001.

The 24th anniversary of 9/11 is fast approaching, and social media are full of commemorations. But why for the 24th anniversary? Yes, it was a shocking event, but aren't major commemorations usually held on the 25th anniversary? I don't recall anything on the 222nd or 23rd anniversary. Hmm...

Yes, the people who spread scare stories about Muslim immigrants (about 2% of the population) "imposing Sharia" on the U.S. are the same ones who want the U.S. government to be based on "traditional Christian values."

It's in line with reports that Minneapolis and Portland have been "burned to the ground," and it appeals to the rural and exurban audiences for AM talk radio, who have a prejudice against cities that dates back as far as Aesop's Fables ("The City Mouse and the Country Mouse").

Yes, the white supremacists make a big deal about a few Pakistanis who were exploiting young girls, but the UK is the country that produced Jimmy Savile, Prince Andrew, and Gary Glitter, so they have a lot of nerve to make that claim.

One excuse that slavery apologists use is that many of the enslaved people had bee sold by other Africans, so no big deal. To which the answer is, "You don't have to buy everything or everyone who is for sale. You chose to participate in this horrible trade."

Here's something to think about. The Republicans may control the districts, but do they control the voters? The Democrats could do a lot of stealth, grassroots, person-to-person campaigning in the affected distrcts, winning over independents, who, after all, are the prize in any election.

When I was on the light rail on my way to the rally in St. Paul, we passed by a senior residential complex, one that has everything from ordinary apartments to full nursing care. There were people in wheelchairs lined up on the sidewalk holding signs and waving at those of us on the train.

Think of how the people of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania used their singing traditions of group singing as peaceful protests against the USSR. Sadly, it seems that we don't have the common musical repertoire that those three countries have.

The most senior Democrats are dependent on wealthy and corporate contributors and are afraid to offend them. In 2020, a group of Wall Street bigwigs actually told them that neither Warren nor Sanders was an acceptable candidate. With Dems like that, who needs Russians?

Yes, the gun issue is one point at which you find out what self-styled "Christians" REALLY worship. Today's society, with greater acceptance of different ethnic groups and people who were once regarded as irredeemable sinners, scares them, and their fear makes them mean.

They're saying, "Tr*** took over the party we were using in our top-down class warfare and ruined everything by being too obvious. We want him to drop the sledgehammer so we can return to using the bread slicing method (just a little power grabbing at a time) method of solidifying the oligarchy."

23.02.2025 19:01 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I'm glad they're against Tr***'s chaos, but aren't they the same people who have consistently enabled the Republicanite Party's top-down class warfare since the Reagan era?

They're angry because he is being too obvious about their main goal: making the rich richer.

I'll believe the member of the Chicken Caucus are sincere when they start voting against Co-Presidents Musk and Trumps.

I never again want to hear those "moderate" Republicans express "concern" or "have questions" as long as they continue voting for the worst Cabinet in American history.

Then we'll see her voting against RFK Jr and persuading other Republicans to do so, right? Right?

Inform the media that you are going to picket your rep's or Senator's local office. Then do it, maybe while making chicken noises. Even without the media, people will see you, and other blue dots will feel heard.
Hey, it can't hurt, and it would be fun.

10.02.2025 22:25 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Make up signs accusing your rep of being part of the Chicken Caucus, such as a caricature of your rep peaking out from behind the Capitol dome saying "Nobody here but us chickens." Or "Too scared to do the right thing." I'm sure you'll think of others.

My House member is Ilhan Omar, but many people in MN and elsewhere are "blue dots in a red sea," convinced that nothing can influence their Congresscritter or Senator.
Unusual times call for unusual tactics. What about shaming?

The Canine Caucus is a lost cause. They're willing to do anything for money and power or for a pat on the head from their true god.
The Chicken Caucus is interesting. They express "concern" and "have questions," but in the end, they do whatever Tr**** tells them.
The Cuckoo Caucus--forget it!

As I've posted elsewhere, the Republicans in Congress belong to either the Canine Caucus (lapdogs, attack dogs), the Chicken Caucus (they know what's right but are afraid of the MAGA voters [or blackmail?]), and the Cuckoo Caucus (MTG and similar ... cuckoos).

I read the first volume of Sozhenitsyn's The Gulag Archipelago when it first appeared in English, and he asks what would have happened if every time the secret police tried to arrest someone their neighbors had come out in a fighting mood, instead of cowering in their own apartments.

The women's ads were for secretaries, retail clerks, hair stylists, nurses, servers in downscale restaurants, and the like.

Almost everything else was in the men's section.

The "men and women" section was only for teachers and caretaker couples for apartments or resorts.
