There are lots of reasons not to leave ECHR. But apart from anything else, it just doesn't solve the problem the Tories/Reform think it does.

E.g. the Supreme Court judgment re Rwanda being unsafe explicitly said it was not based on ECHR.

Funny they don't seem so bothered by Jenrick's three homes (including a grade 1 listed manor) plus his forth home in his constituency rented at taxpayer expense.

Wonder why.

63% of people think net migration rose in the last 12 months
8% of people think it fell

Yet it fell by 400,000 in 2024 vs 2023
[It is falling further in 2025]

Public service broadcasters are doing a core part of their job on this topic badly if that 8% is not closer to 30% at least

Migrants can't answer back.

They have no voice.

So they make the perfect scapegoat for the pent-up rage of the angry, self-loathing far right who can unite around this issue.

In addition it gives the media something to write about in the long summer recess.

That is what is really going on here.

We’re teaming up with London Social Ventures on the Adult Social Care Impact Launchpad, connecting researchers with care teams to turn bold, evidence-based ideas into action. Real change, grounded in rigour. More soon on how to support or pilot the work.

I really get the national outrage over the felling of the sycamore tree, but 4 years in prison seems v expensive and unlikely to address their behaviour. Surely several years of community service planting trees and public realm work and educating them would be a better outcome

πŸ“… @carecityuk.bsky.social has spent the last year building belonging in Barking & Dagenham – working with 100+ people, saving £££ & embedding real community power.

We heard about the lessons learnt – and how these can be applied in other contexts to create more connected places.

As Heidi says (and knows well), this is the start of the process.

American space scientists are hardly alone as the target of gratuitous, damaging cuts. Park rangers, rural nurses, migrant restauranteurs, chemistry PhDs, and countless others have suffered. Ask Congress to restore sanity.

Farage claimed in his speech today that he would raise Β£65 *billion* by cutting climate policies, DEI schemes, and β€˜Quangos’.

He’s not running a serious operation and every political journalist in the country has a public duty to shout that from the rooftops

There is no point saying to the Reform-curious 'ah, it's all a lot more complex than that, that's simplistic'. The whole point of the right-populist insurgency is a revolt *against* complexity, the promised escape into a simpler, purer world.
