China overtakes US in number of top scientists, signalling global talent shift While the number of leading scientists in America is falling, the number in China is only going up, according to new data.

It’s a major surprise to me that this is the first time it’s happened.

The methodology in defining a
top scientist was to look at the authors of the most cited papers in 129 scientific journals.

Since 2020, the number of U.S. top scientists has declined by 14% while it’s up by 77% in China.
