Don't let them take away our rights behind closed doors The EHRC's proposed Code of Practice would devastate trans+ lives and put everybody at risk. This trans bathroom ban is set to become law with no debate, no scrutiny and no vote in Parliament. We have to act now.

The EHRC – the body which is meant to protect our human rights – is proposing guidance which would turn the Equality Act into a bathroom ban. If this becomes law, it would force trans people out of public life.

Ultimately, Freeman’s column isn’t pitiful because it rubs salt in the wound—it’s pitiful because it lays bare the true aim of the anti-trans movement. This was never about policy or bathrooms or youth sports. It’s about a cohort of people who feel culture shifting beneath their feet, who were raised in a world where casual cruelty toward transgender people was normalized, and who now find themselves resentful that society has moved on. Rather than reflect or grow, they double down, demanding that their revulsion be seen as virtue—that their discomfort be not only accepted but celebrated. Freeman’s yearning for social validation, cloaked in the language of righteous indignation, reveals the movement’s hollow core. The title of her piece says it all: this isn’t about the law, it’s about the isolation that comes from being wrong. And no court decision—no matter how cruel—will win back the friendships lost to hate, or rescue those who chose the wrong side of history from the consequences of that choice.

It is time for me to warm up my very inactive blog. As I promised elsewhere I will be writing about gender definitions etc. in the wake of today's UK Supreme Court ruling but first, for at least some folk reading, there's the need for a small amount of personal context.

I will have more to say, not so much on today's UK Supreme Court ruling, but upon underlying definitions and philosophy shortly.

This General Assembly of Unitarian and Free Christian Churches i) recognises, with concern, the increasingly authoritarian stance taken by the Trump administration in the USA and particularly notes the administration’s: a. brazen disregard for the truth b. demonisation of diversity and of vulnerable minorities c. disempowerment of women d. increasingly belligerent rhetoric towards other sovereign nations ii) stands in solidarity with the Unitarian Universalist Association of America and with all Americans who uphold the truth and the marginalised iii) recognises, with sadness, the need for greater caution regarding US influence over UK public life and policy. Accordingly, it requests that Unitarians write to their MPs, and that the Chief Officer writes to the Prime Minister, urging that the UK Government resists making concessions to court favour with the Trump administration.

The following Emergency Motion was passed (and is thus now a Resolution) with an overwhelming majority at the Annual Meetings of the UK General Assembly of the Unitarian and Free Christian Churches on Sunday 13th April.
