Narrator absolutely wants Stanley to have the control. If he didn't want it, he'd just keep himself away from him or force a reset. He might even rile him up on purpose to avoid asking directly, and Stanley knows his cues so well. He knows it's okay to have him

Stanley being on top is genuinely so much more interesting to me than Narrator being on top. Stanley is taking out the frustration he has been building up, and Narrator is letting some control go so his protagonist can feel better
