I’ll probably go with the AC Infinity fan, I just have to find a place for it. Even at my last place, I had it venting out the basement window, but the built in fan isn’t nearly enough.

The laser is now setup in my garage, using a exhaust box I created to fit under the garage door seal. It works, but I need a more powerful fan to pull away the smoke. But I was able to cut some acrylic pieces.

I’m designing an exhaust vent that will let me use my laser in the garage without having to block or modify the door. I’ll have to see if it restricts the blower or I might need more positive pressure.

Wow! That probably will be useful. Rod Steward is a clever name for it.

Thanks to Daniel V for coming up and helping me rearrange and organize my garage so I could get my mom’s car in with extra space. I finally got my laser setup with the iMac with lightburn.

It’s ok, I’ll be at more reprap festivals.

You should try using dowel rods and 3D printed connectors to put your life back together. πŸ˜‰

In reality this riser shelf could have been done with a single 6ft sheet but I made it modular in case I have to change the size. I’ve considered adding alignment features but it would make it less printable without supports.

It has the minimum amount of screws to stay together. Some of the dowels hold together with friction, the dowels and printed parts have slight tolerances so the screws prevent them from pulling out.

The panel mounts that you can generate with the OpenSCAD, there is 4 of them per panel. The corner connectors have flats that the panels rest on as well. It’s kind of difficult to align everything.

My first shelf using the RAD system. Entirely plywood tiles, 3/8in dowels, screws and parts printed on the Positron.

My positron has been printing some practical prints around the house. Come to 3D Printopia and you’ll see me wearing it on my back all weekend.

This is the cheapest miter saw you can get from harbor freight. I also have a non-ferrous carbide blade I cut aluminum extrusions and brass strips. www.harborfreight.com/power-tools/...

All you need is a miter saw and patience.

@ brings up a list of people you can tag that you follow I think. # you just enter it as a keyword so people find it in discovery but bsky and Twitter work differently.

Makerchip Dispenser Belt Holster by Mitch 3D | Download free STL model | Printables.com

For 3D Printopia, I came up with a clever solution to makerchip storage when I walk around with the 3D printer backpack. Feel free to share, download, like, remix!

If Jim Henson licensed acrylic sticks as a Fraggle Rock toy, I would have been all over it as a kid. The closest we had was the coolest Lego sets though.

I might have been inspired by the Doozers from Fragle Rock quite a bit on this one.

A good design exercise for @openscad.bsky.social is to make makerchips, SVG import, text linear_extrude, and shape iteration. Don’t have an MMU/AMS? Just manually swap filament for the first and last layers with your pop color. Of course this can all be done in the slicer.

The commercial was way cooler than actually playing it. Even as a kid I was trying to reverse engineer the mechanism and make my own.

4ft pine 1in dowels are about $6 each at Home Depot and more at Lowe’s (higher quality pine I think). Curtain rods, broom/rake handles, etc at least retail are varnished or not exactly 1in and cost more. For uniformity I’m sticking (pun intended) with commonly available dowels.

I got my first level of shelf, I’m getting dowels as I can (local hardware stores don’t carry a lot of them and I can’t afford to buy them all at once). It’s a good proof of concept though. I think it’ll be more stable with plywood screwed on top.

I shrunk the dodecahedron to a manageable size. I also started building my entertainment center to perfectly fit the bay windows. It’s not the cheapest option for custom shelving, I realize 2x4’s would be the cheapest and sturdy but now I’m committed.

I did the teardrop with too cylinders and hull to combine the two. The old school reprap teardrops are pointless with modern printers. But it works really well.

Just for fun I set $fn = 8 and made an octagonal version. I would need to go in an change the facet count variable for each object to make this actually work with round dowels.

That’s awesome! I was considering using octagon shapes but I preferred the rounded look so I added flats and teardrops to make it more printable. What is this used for?
