“The Genoese House” in Galata. With columns dating from the 4th–5th centuries, it was used between the 13th and 15th centuries as a shop, residence, and possibly as an annex of the Church of St Paul (now the Arab Mosque).

It was brought to Istanbul by Osman Hamdi Bey (1842–1910), a brilliant painter, archaeologist, and founder of Ottoman museology.
