Tactics was high on my list for a long while, but... honestly? I have a soft spot for the first Crystal Chronicles game, despite its slight wonkiness. Yes, you were all trapped on the TV, but it was almost like an MMO in your living room with friends.

'Nother multipost for missed days because... life and all.

Day 17: Favorite Soundtrack

FFVI, and it's not even close. Every track hits you. From the first note of Terra's Theme to the final fade-out on Dancing Mad, it has its hooks in you. Then, when you think your brain has had enough... OCRemix.

"Southwest Ontario" does have a nice ring to it.

Today's numbers were estimated at 50K, so the warm-weather crowd would have been great.

Nothing quite like outnumbering your oppressors 50 to 1.

So proud of everyone's efforts in our wonderful state. And the countless friends across the country doing their best, too.

There's nothing we can't accomplish when we stand together.

We train the kids to enjoy the cool temps early on. Schools usually don't even start to close until it's -30°F with the wind chill!

We love it here, though. Still, I do wish we'd get a proper Minnesota blizzard to really add an extra kick with 14" of snow and slush to freeze the roadways.

Dad used to build these HUGE snow tracks -- basically like a bobsled run -- from the back of the house to the edge of the yard, where a 30ft hill started. And a ramp 5-6ft tall, misted with water and frozen overnight.

We'd FLY down that thing and rocket halfway up the other hill across the creek.

Pay attention to what large stores are still open, as they can more easily afford a day without business, and consider the management complicit in ICE's occupation of the Twin Cities.

Be mindful of where you shop after tomorrow.

Spell:
There's something satisfying about getting that ultimate "clear the battlefield" spell in a game. FF 1's NUKE is no exception. Mind you, with the original spell system, you may not be casually dropping it as often as you could Ultima in VI, but that first cast is always SO worth the wait.

Day XVI: Favorite Summon/Spell

Summon:
Once you get it, every boss gets hit with it: FF VIII's Doomtrain. It was both ridiculous and useful. Granted, most of the status effects were moot against bosses, but noting was immune to the (permanent) defense-dropping Vit 0 debuff.

I've got a bunch of game titles pre-made for future stream use. 7D2D, Borderlands, Hollow Knight, Tropico, etc. All I need to do is swap them in.

Might lighten the effect on this one. That gradient is a tad dark.

The orange creature looks FAR to healthy, otherwise no critiques.

The music was fantastic, the encounter itself keeps you on edge the whole time, and, if you go in at a "good enough" level and like a challenge, then things can get exceptionally brutal when Kefka starts countering with some devastating spells.

You wait all game for this fight and it's SO worth it.

Day XV: Favorite Boss Fight

In terms of FINAL bosses, I've got to give it to VI for Kefka. The gauntlet before the final battle (possibly including the three bosses immediately before the finale as well, if you don't exit and cycle Strago through the paths to pick up his last Lore spells) was wild.

Day XIV: Favorite Summoner Character

Okay. I'm a huge fan of the 3D models for Yuna's summons in X (Plus, the Magus Sisters returning? Noice.) but I also have a soft spot for Rydia's story in IV. Skipping the spoilers, because they're good ones, I'll go with Rydia.

Anyhow, Vivi gets it. He revived the Black Mage look -- hidden face, big ol' hat, blue outfit -- after it went missing for a number of years, had an interesting backstory that played into the plot of IX itself, and got a pretty wicked little cutscene during a Black Waltz encounter.
