ProPublica previously showed how such software lets landlords set rents in a way that could result in cartel-like behavior.

There are 18-25 year olds who think the Sydney Sweeney stuff rocks, but they don’t shop at American Eagle. They order tactical anti-woke jeans from racist veterans on the internet.

Grossly irresponsible of the Times to have this ludicrous credulous spin as the top story the morning after a president who rules by fiat proclaims a totally specious emergency to militarize the capital - an editorial insult to our intelligence and our democracy.

If you’re a cable host interviewing a Republican this week and you don’t come prepared with the crime stats from their home state or city, you’re missing the easiest dunk imaginable.

yeah sorry call me a rube if you want but I find it amazing and uncanny that machines can write pretty sophisticated poetry. that is a normal view that normal people have. what’s crazy here is that there’s not even real disagreement about the capability, you just refuse to admit it’s noteworthy

there’s always a little too much chatter about what the Court will or won’t do. to someone who says they won’t overturn obergefell, i ask only this: what do you think the odds are, and how much are you willing to bet?

In all honesty, I think the reason people miscalculated the Sydney Sweeney jeans thing is that they assume the people obsessed with her are 18-25 when really it’s 50-70 year old weird wet men

The latter group here--those that are just addicted to avoiding online criticism--have also likely been impacted by Twitter being taken over by fascists. Suddenly, they're more likely to be dogpiled for supporting the LGBT+ community instead of opposing it, and they take that trend at face value.

and this is beyond the fact that “crime” and even “immigration” often do not stand for the things themselves but for some other concern or issue

the issue is that producing stark declines in crime and public disorder is generally not reported on, but that any instance of violence is given sensational coverage, so that the perception is of growing crime even when american cities are safer than ever

I had an interesting (and sobering) conversation recently with a member of my church congregation from Iran whose parents and brother live in the US. She mentioned that she likes Trump because "he's very strict", but also complained that his visa policies make it impossible to rejoin her family.

i will never not be amused by how the conservative world is governed by the kind of “affirmative action” they say happens in mainstream institutions. totally unqualified dipshits are handed the keys to institutions because they say the right thing and have the right look.

I'm considering there may be an immense systemic risk for many of those who are tech-adjacent not understanding the true peril human-presenting LLM's contort and mould minds of the common citizen who do not scarcely fathom what they are dealing with on a level beyond magic.

I mean, if you use "dangerous" and "unsafe" to mean "I have to see poor and mentally ill people living on the streets and it is unsanitary and it upsets me," then lots of American cities are dangerous and unsafe.

The chances that Trump didn’t rape underage girls are pretty much zero. There’s a ton of strong circumstantial evidence that he did. The GOP is okay with it. Tech bros, Christian Nationalists, and Nazis need their man in the White House.
