Ubisoft released a color blind simulation tool today, called UbiChroma.
The free and open source tool enables developers to test for color blind accessibility issues in real-time. Fitting existing workflows, it can help catch color blind issues early.

Aha what a fantastic film, I've found it's so difficult to recommend without giving anything away and a solid "JUST TRUST ME".
I recommended it once and had the friend bounce off it 10 mins in, only to come back absolutely loving it after I promised them it was worth it. Loved this film so much.
Oh wow, this looks amazing. Im something of a game jam fanatic myself π I'm not sure i'll be able to make time to enter with getting stuck into the book, but i will DEFINITELY be keeping an eye on this for research!

Also if you love Game Jams AND game accessibility, do I have a game jam for you to check out! Also the discord has some of the folks I mentioned who are award winners and vets of video game accessibility.

A good well needed break i think, it was a shame to follow the nice break with covid but i definitely feel a lot better now π That's amazing, thank you so much :-)

Amazing, thank you! Avid attendee of the GAConf, but i hadn't seen the playlist and this is incredibly useful both for material and a reminder of who to reach out to. Thanks Ian!
(Apologies for the slow reply, i took a last minute digital detox over xmas!)
Thank you so much for the link, i'll definitely be reaching directly out to some devs who feature here and have built other accessibility features.
(Apologies for the slow reply, i took a last minute digital detox over xmas!)
I'm also interested if it's not a feature, but a philosophy that has been clearly applied as a design fundamental.

The content I'm looking for is permission to screenshot, acknowledge and reference your features (with full title credits & thanks in the book).
The goal of the book is to be both a developer handbook and to provide a strong business case for devs to convince/approve accessibility features & cost.
Heya folks, do I have any mutual indie developers who have included #accessibility features in their released games they would be interested in letting me reference in my book on building better accessible games?

Designing for colourblindness is, as you say, a practical decision making process that avoids the use of colour as the singular method for communicating information.
And even the filters don't give you the whole picture and shouldn't be relied on exclusively.
Great point on the use of the Unreal filters, they're simply for the simulation OF colourblindness not a fix-all filter. I've seen this misunderstood on the development shop floor several times.
I have found the use of these filters to be an enlightening tool for teams, but they are easily misused.

I want to make a personal appeal for the beautiful new game of Palestinian gamedev @rasheedabueideh.bsky.social. As nobody will fund a game about the 1948 Nakba, Rasheed is crowdfunding via launchgood.com/1948. I've been doing production advice on the game pro bono, and it deserves to exist.
28.11.2024 14:01 β π 1411 π 862 π¬ 39 π 30In case you missed this yesterday - this project is incredibly important and dear to me. The developer, @rasheedabueideh.bsky.social, is potentially in danger for insisting on making this game, but he refuses to back down because backing down would mean not telling this story.

The most common & harmful #gamedev misconception about accessibility is that accessibility = feature development, therefore accessibility = cost that must be weighed up.
If there was one single thing that I could delete from the collective consciousness it would be that.
