Parky, out. My nose is cold.

I keep reminding myself that I can get a train to Okehampton at any time.

Honestly, I absolutely loathed it until the day I ate a bit that had been deep fried so that it was spongy, and covered in Thai green curry sauce. The deep frying gives it texture and it soaks up the sauce.

The downside is that I've tried to replicate this at home many times and failed horribly.

It has been raining but is brightening up again now. I wanted to go up to Hay Tor today, last chance this year, but I was sorting out the washing machine debacle.

I thought we on the spectrum were supposed to be picky eaters.

Six. It was only four, then there was a double whammy right at the end.

There are a lot of things I'll only eat in a specific form, though. Chicken liver pate is fine, other forms of liver are not. Tofu as cooked by my local Thai takeaway is divine, but that's it.

MRNA research has been gutted by the Trump administration, but it may yet be the silver bullet against cancer

Maybe next week will be better.

Is it Sainsbury's? They've 'improved' (read fucked up) the layout of my local one and it took me three visits to find the cream crackers again.

The year is 3025. Archeologists excavating the ruins of Washington, D.C., uncover what appears to be an ancient ballroom. After a series of horrifying fatal accidents, they discover it's built on a haunted burial ground, directly over the corpse of democracy.

β€˜It’s insanely sinister’: horror writers on the scariest stories they’ve ever read Bloodthirsty ghosts, sadistic supercomputers, creepy childhood games ... Mariana EnrΓquez, Paul Tremblay, Daisy Johnson and others on the tales that kept them up at night

Here's a list of books I will never read. Far too suggestible. My personal addition to this list would be a short story by - of all people - Gerald Durrell, called 'The Entrance'.

I've never been keen on mirrors and this story didn't help. #horror

Nothing beats the endorphin rush of the postperson turning up when you'd decided they weren't going to.

I'll overlook the fact that I had to get up by 9.30 this morning and he didn't actually arrive until 12.17.

If I put enough holes it will fall apart. These things must be considered. πŸ˜‚

I think all this stuff about skewers is nonsense, though, the holes aren't big enough for the booze to soak through. I just sprinkle brandy on the top.

Oh ew.

I thought I'd scooped out nearly all the water but I still needed every tea towel I possess to soak up the spillage, plus a bath towel. Unfortunately I cannot wash them, can I? So they'll have to dry out, dirty, until the machine is fixed.

25.10.2025 10:40 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I'm getting a Bosch engineer in because I know how much they'll charge and local plumber is saying 'may' cost Β£80. At least with Bosch, if it's not just a blockage, they can fix it.

25.10.2025 10:13 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Yes, according to the weather forecast, dry until 14.00 tomorrow. Also, light breeze, which is important cos my whirligig blows over in strong winds. First few things are out, have drained the machine (and cleaned the kitchen floor, natch), will shortly hang rest out.

25.10.2025 10:12 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

At some point today, I have to start extracting dripping washing from my machine, rinsing it in the sink and lugging it outside to drip. As it's raining, this will be great fun.

Then I have to manually drain the washing machine.

I can't tell you all how much I am looking forward to this.

NOT.

This. I've only ever met one Trekkie (so far as I know) and she was definitely a woman. Funny how some blokes seem to want to make some things 'blokes-only'. Of course women don't write science fiction. Except Mary Shelley, who invented it. And Ursula Le Guin. And Doris Lessing. And Suzanne Collins.
