they're based on the main character and his cat from You Wake Up In Razor Hill! It was an old "choose your own adventure" style piece of... fanfic, almost? that was run on the forums way back when afaik. It was essentially Silent Hill (WoW) with memes.

i am in LOVE with the tiny touch of brown in the greys, here- it's such a beautifully earthy color scheme compared to Verrot's oily cool sheen
