We Might Have to “Shut Down the Country”
Anthony Romero, the A.C.L.U.’s executive director, talks about what he thinks could happen if the Trump Administration defies the authority of the courts.
What happens if the courts can't stop the Trump Administration? “Then we’ve got to take to the streets in a different way,” Anthony Romero, the executive director of the A.C.L.U., tells David Remnick. “We've got to shut down this country.”

So the President has abruptly fired the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Charles Q. Brown Jr., and is replacing him with a retired three star general, Dan Caine. This portends a future grave crisis as the President attempts to restructure the military into one personally loyal to him.

Canada supplies over 4 million barrels of deeply discounted oil per day to the USA.
Reality: The USA does not "subsidize" Canada, Canada subsidizes the USA.
If you take Canadian oil out of the equation, Canada actually has a trade deficit, and the U.S. has a surplus — of $58 billion.
We supply cheap oil to the USA to ensure North American energy independence, so North America can never again be held hostage by OPEC countries.

I think the most wrong I have ever been as a political scientist was when I said in a public forum in 2020 that there would not be political violence in the US (Jan 6 was 2 mos later).
Tonight’s purges are a clear precursor to more future such violence. This is textbook authoritarian abuse stuff.

* Admiral Linda Fagan, Coast Guard Commandant: FIRED FOR BEING FEMALE
All replaced by less qualified white guys.

One immediate action from Senate democrats is to block any up/down voice vote and hold hearings for each and every one of the new General/Admiral confirmations. The Republicans can win the votes, but the process to vote on each of these nominations will take time. Grind them down!

MAGA Has Found a New Model
The leading figures of the Trump administration have fallen for a far-right party in Germany.
J.D. Vance and Elon Musk’s efforts to help the AfD party win the German election goes beyond trolling liberals, writes Peter Wehner. “They see in the AfD an undiluted version of MAGA.”

Something that's maddening about the cases involving DOGE access to our most sensitive private data and the irreparable harm standard is that the ACCESS ITSELF is the irreparable harm, and some judges just aren't getting that. (Some are, e.g., storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...)

Trump’s war on public employees is bad for all of us.
