I truly hope the changes are for the betterment of GDC, but the response from my immediate network has largely been skepticism and bafflement. I guess we'll see how attendance numbers shake out this year.

For clarity, this question wasn't meant to be rhetorical. I would absolutely appreciate any insight you can offer as to why the barrier for entry has risen so significantly. Cheers pal.

The minimum cost of bringing our team to GDC has risen from $1500 to $3900. This is not a "reduced price", and I suspect we will deem it unjustifiable as a travel expense.

Why on earth isn't there an Expo-only option?

I'm sure a ton of people are already hesitant/reluctant to travel to the States *at all*. This can't possibly help.

Apparently conference organizers have stated that these changes are "informed and inspired by feedback from the community"... but I'd worry how many people this is going to discourage from attending - that is, if it doesn't price them out entirely.

But if my intent at GDC is to browse the Expo Floor and speak with fellow developers, what exactly is the value add here? To bring our team of 6 to GDC would no longer cost us a minimum of $1500 - it would cost $3900. Not quite "45% more affordable".

The $649 Festival Pass seems like good value for what was previously a much more expensive All Access Pass, but it completely ignores the fact that GDC's barrier for entry is now an additional $400 at minimum. (Mind you, $449 for startup/indies, and $349 for students/faculty. Still more than $249.)

My immediate reaction is that this point is at best only partially accurate, and at worst willfully dishonest.

Previously, the Expo Floor Pass was all you needed to get in the door. For GDC 2025, it was $249.
