As Satoru pulls in, Yaga is standing there with his arms folded over his chest, looking even more furious than Satoru feels. Confronted by that stony expression, it’s practically instinct to apologise at this point. ‘Sorry.’ ‘Are you?’ ‘No.’ He’s just being honest. ‘That was sick.’ All at once, Yaga deflates, scrubbing his hands over his face. ‘It was,’ he admits. Satoru notices a vein throbbing in his temple and hopes the old man took his blood pressure medication. ‘I don’t know what the hell they’re thinking.’ ‘They’re hoping I’ll kill myself for real this time,’ he says cheerfully. ‘Keep your voice down.’ Yaga is looking around nervously, but Satoru has never felt so locked in. His mind has never felt more clear. He’s so fucking enraged that he’s moved beyond anger altogether. It’s just pure, single-minded focus. He looks off down the course at where Kashimo is earning oohs and aahs using the move that he made famous. ‘I’m gonna run it again.’ There’s a long pause, filled only by the gasps of the crowd as his countryman takes a hard bail on his last run. The announcer’s voice booms around the mountainside, underscored by the incessant beat of the kick snare rhythm blasting from the speakers. ‘What the hell…’ Satoru prepares to make his case, but then, ‘Sure.’ Turning to his coach in surprise, he finds Yaga wearing the same stony expression as before, but this time, Satoru knows it isn’t for him. ‘Give ‘em hell, kid,’ he says, voice gruff. ‘How are you feeling?’ ‘Good.’ It isn’t even a lie. The ache in Satoru’s pelvis is easy to ignore when he’s this fucking fired up, all the adrenaline coursing round his system. ‘I can do it.’ At last, Yaga claps Satoru on the shoulder, cuffs him round the back of his neck. ‘I know you can.’

i guess i didn't share this here! very rough look at the ski (snowboard) fic sequel 🏂 struggling to find motivation for fandom recently, but the olympics started and... yeah, i'm gonna finish it. despite how it looks, it WILL be #satosugu and it WILL be E rated. and it WILL be fantastic *shrugs*

he's going to wish he'd done it sooner 🤭

‘It’s my birthday today.’ Stubbornly, Yūta does not wish him a happy birthday, but he doesn’t seem to mind. Doesn’t even seem like he’s talking to Yūta at all, actually. ‘Never thought I’d make it to 28,’ he says with this pensive lilt to his voice that’s almost musical. ‘Never thought I’d make it to 18 to be honest.’ He almost sounds cheerful when he says, ‘Satoru could have saved himself a lot of trouble if he’d just got it over with.’ Could have saved Yūta a lot of trouble, too. That’s the first thought that springs to mind, but it arrives without any real fire behind it. More like a habit than a genuine feeling. It’s just that it’s hard to hate someone who seems to take such genuine delight in the taste of an apple. When he finally bites into it, his eyes flutter shut and his brow creases, jaw rolling slowly as he thought he’s doing his utmost to savour every burst of flavour on his tongue. Sitting there on a rock with his apple in hand, he sinks his fingers into the snow and drags them through the moss and breathes deep. Then, for the first time in the two weeks they’ve been on the road together, Getō smiles. Yūta has seen this man’s smile on the battlefield, but the gentle thing he’s wearing as he turns his face towards the sun isn’t that. Supposedly, he was only posing as Buddhist monk before, but looking at him now, Yūta could believe he was the real deal after all. He’s the very picture of peace and purpose.

satoru takes one night off and suguru starts spiraling 😔 I do too! love Yearner Gojo but suguru pining is just as sweet--and I think that despite Gojo's best efforts to end himself, the time apart is exactly what Suguru needs to sort how he feels

The air between them is light when they sneak into the dorm, snickering almost loudly enough to attract Yaga’s attention. “Shower, then food,” Satoru declares gesturing at himself, then at Suguru, “food, then shower.” “Oh? You don’t want to shower together?” “We can do that tomorrow. I’m too hungry to focus.” “Bet I could make you focus,” Suguru murmurs, but he’s already moving towards the kitchen. “Hurry up, then. We’re not making anything fancy.” He starts on cup noodles, with egg, scallions and tomato juice to add some actual nourishment. By the time Satoru comes back from his shower and switches with Suguru, there’s nothing left to do but dump the noodles and broth into bowls. Satoru grins like he’s won by having Suguru do all the work, but the joke’s on him. He’ll find the noodles way too spicy for his taste. Knowing his dinner is on the line--Satoru is more than capable of gobbling up both portions--Suguru keeps his shower brief. He’s not keen to be alone with his thoughts at the moment anyway. They keep circling back to the conversation with Suzuki, and Satoru’s unexpected takeaway.

It strikes Suguru that this is the second time in less than a week that Satoru has done some genuine self-reflection, and even communicated his concerns. Meanwhile, what does Suguru have to show for himself? Denial and wilful blindness on Suzuki’s level at best, malicious intent at worst. Suguru’s being selfish, plain and simple, and Satoru is letting him get away with it. Odd. Concerning, even. Back in the kitchen, Suguru discovers that his portion of the noodles is not only untouched, but seems to hold the majority of the fresh ingredients. They sit down to eat in the common area. The dorms are quiet, empty. The few upperclassmen that still cling to life as sorcerers have all been dispatched on missions. Suguru wants to question Satoru’s unusual courtesy, but doesn’t know how without sounding like an ungrateful brat.

it's been three thousand years (3 months) since my last wipsday, and i'm back with the exact same fic 😭 the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026 have been something. if i don't get back to writing regularly soon, i'm going to explode
