Greg Davies: Great task, well done. Didn‘t eat a thing.

Persephone: Thank you.

Alex Horne: Ah. Well. Let’s take another look at that pomegranate.

Am I too cynical or is it twice the amount of marketing for one event?

Because that was during the time in my career when I couldn’t get a decent cover. And/or Maeve was going through some stuff and taking it out on her hair.

I appreciate the thoughtfulness but it’s slightly more depressing to think about opting out and why that is, rather than just deleting them.

It’s the season of ‘would you like to opt out of Mother’s Day emails’ emails.

I don’t mind seeing things again and rereading them but there are other stories to show/share. It’s all about money, unfortunately.

Nothing is wrong with any of these things but it feels like we’re digesting culture to smooth pap and drinking it through a straw as if anything more substantial is too hard for us.

The new Goalhanger books podcast is about classic literature I.e dead authors. My son’s favourite bands are the Arctic Monkeys and Radiohead. I’m just as bad; I’m rewatching Band of Brothers (excellent, 2001). I just saw a discussion in an online book club of Girl on the Train. It came out in 2015…

Is it me or does culture feel increasingly nostalgic? New adaptations of books but they are worn smooth by previous adaptations (P&P, WH, Jane Eyre). Reworking old series for TV like the Elizabeth George one. Reissues of old books hitting the charts, a smaller range of authors hitting the top ten.

Oh, that stage. The posture of a peeled prawn and the nutritional intake of an unwatched eight year old.

I read them when I was a child, then read them to my kids when they were small. Now the 14 year old is on a nostalgia kick and reading them again! What a series arc. Impeccable writing.

Holding hands with my husband inside his (properly sized, useful) coat pocket in cold weather.
Also the whiffling sigh of a dog preparing to nap.
