From more than 200 Expressions of Interest, the final submissions narrowed down to around 89 individual partners bringing more than 39 million data points onto the Digital Health & Discovery Platform.

March 2025 saw the launch of the Digital Health Innovation Fund; $25 M targeted to bring together small- to medium-sized enterprises in project teams of two or more to advance AI and machine learning to accelerate precision medicine. #precisionmedicine #precisiononcology

Sharing data helps.
AI and machine learning collect and analyze for faster diagnosis, drawing conclusions from reported symptoms in electronic health records that seem unrelated.
These tools also ID treatments that are often off-label and match them to patients.

Rare cancers (6 per 100,000 people) make up 20–22% of new cancer cases in Canada, disproportionately affecting young adults and children.
Rarity impacts awareness, diagnosis and treatment. Clinicians may only see a handful of cases; enough data may not be available for researchers to work with.

Rare Disease Day 2026

Rare diseases, defined as affecting fewer than one person in 2,000, affect around 300 million worldwide.
Rare disease affects around 1 in 12 Canadians or 3 million people.
