Dearly Departed Datasets poster
This Halloween season, we're remembering our Dearly Departed Datasets β the federal datasets that have met an untimely end. Help us memorialize what was lost and why they matter.
Memorialize them here by 10/29: forms.gle/nGFj5Teqg6d7...
Results will be shared on Halloween!
Our very own Jessica Mahr, Director of Technology at Environmental Policy Innovation Center, was recognized as a Forbes 2025 Sustainability Leader for her work with PEDP to preserve federal environmental data. Read more about her work here!

Cutting reporting may save some compliance costs in the short term, but the long-term costs of climate inaction are far greater. If we donβt measure emissions, we canβt manage them.
15.09.2025 20:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0β’Global credibility: The U.S. must report emissions to meet climate commitments and maintain trust on the world stage.
β’Risk management: Businesses and governments use emissions data to anticipate climate risks and protect people, health, and infrastructure.
Reporting ensures:
β’Transparency & accountability: Communities and investors can see who is emitting and whether progress is real.
β’Smart policy: Leaders need reliable data to design effective, targeted climate solutions.
Accurate emissions data is the foundation of any effective climate policy. Without it, weβre flying blind.

15.09.2025 20:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0On Friday, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed ending the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP)βthe dataset that has given the public, communities, and investors a window into emissions from ~8,000 U.S. facilities since 2010.

Join us for a Datathon on March 21st! This datathon will have two tracks: a datathon component to download data, and a hackathon component that will target data that requires code or scripting to obtain. All experience levels welcome! This is your chance to: - Preserve access to critical datasets - Contribute by uploading community-identified data - Connect with fellow open data enthusiasts We look forward to your contributions and to seeing you at the Datathon!

1/ Earlier this month, the Trump EPA announced it would cancel 100s of grants already authorized by congress. EDGI & @publicenvirodata.bsky.social have released a map highlighting the impacts of cancellations on #EnvironmentalJustice communities. Learn more here: envirodatagov.org/new-environm...

Following rigorous competition and vetting, groups that received grants have already begun to implement projects: hiring staff, contracting with local businesses, and beginning to deliver results to improve health and environmental benefits for America. The status of these grants is now uncertain.
20.03.2025 15:31 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We published a map to help Americans understand the effects of these proposed cutsβfor journalists to tell stories about these programs, for economists to evaluate their impacts, and for residents of these communities as well.

This map displays environmental justice (EJ) grants the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has made through the Inflation Reduction Act since 2024. The EPA Administrator previously announced his intention to cancel many of the agency's grants and contracts and their status is quickly changing: some recipients have lost access to funds, received notices of termination, or find themselves uncertain of their status. This map is not comprehensive and will be updated periodically as additional information becomes available, but what is displayed here is a large number of the potentially affected grants.
EPAβs environment justice grants under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) were developed according to high standards and in strict adherence with federal laws, policies, and regulations. The programs were designed to be transparent, accountable, and impactful. They're being targeted by EPA and DOGE.
