He was a dignified public servant for many years, when he could have earned more in the private sector. But something changed.

I always thought he was a proper, decent man. Gutted to be wrong.

The by-election should be the perfect point for Starmer to finalise realise he needs a change of direction.

It would be appalling but not surprising if ministers, and MPs, had no idea of the real implications of performative cruelty like this. Empathy seems completely banished from their strategy.

I don’t agree with the Greens on everything, there’s still so mad stuff in there.

But most of all, they are for hope.

And increasingly it feels Labour are not, and that’s why they are losing. Terrible comms, terrible strategy, and terrible about delivering on those things they should be for.

Nadhim Zahawi thinks London is now unsafe, because the other day a tired-looking man walked past him during the morning rush hour.

Couldn’t be happier that it’s against bloody Leicester! Bet that shut them πŸ˜†

You cannot explain this football club.

In every single way. Literally could be 9-0 or 3-4. I’ll take the 3-4 πŸ˜‰

Madness. Amazing, but also furious at the first half still πŸ˜†

It’s to our credit that everyone hated Lowe for the entire time he was at the club. We knew he was a wrong-un.

Thank you! Do love a random deep dive on things, I’ll give them a go.

I want to watch it again but it’s very hard to recommend it to friends/family without saying how utterly horrific it is. That’s not always a big selling point for some people πŸ˜‰

I saw there was a BBC doc, which I want to watch, but if there’s a good podcast on it you’d recommend, be great if you could share the link.

Ha ha, seeing Mango Mussolini on the screen regularly does make you resistant against most things!

But I also thought I should watch Threads again, and that’s probably the most horrific film I’ve ever seen. That just burns into your soul.

It’s an incredible piece of film making, and completely agree about appreciating the brilliance but not wanting to see it again.

But my memory isn’t great, I can easily enjoy old films again, and now I might need another watch…

Yeah, after all the effort - and there really was effort there today - it was hugely frustrating.

I think it’s because our coach is too cautious (hence back 5 obsession), inexperienced and lacks a clear strategy. So no one really knows what to do, and then has no next step when it stops working.

25.01.2026 20:21 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I was actually impressed by the defending today, for the first time in a long time, compared to our usual standard. More commitment, more proactive defending, especially considering the front 6 couldn’t hold the ball up at all.

But still so far off good, and one lapse inevitably cost us.

25.01.2026 20:16 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

At least it’s the same problems, they’re consistent πŸ˜‰ Lack of mental resilience, (the defence actually stood up well today to be fair) but we just can’t kill teams off or manage the game, and we got bullied at a set piece to concede.

I was intrigued, and loved the original, but it sounds so bad it’s bad, rather than so bad it’s fun…

Writing his resignation. But we’ll have to suffer watching this, what a joke.

Because that’s what he wants. It feels increasingly like the far right want civil wars - so they can do what they’ve always wanted to do, but democratic processes would never allow.

24.01.2026 23:01 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I think that’s the best approach! Been to that ground 3 times, no wins, just want to see us beat them and never have to visit that hellhole again.

Can’t see it though. Although if nothing else, another example that Tonda is so far out of his depth it’s embarrassing.

24.01.2026 11:36 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

After the humiliation of that match at Pompey and the final home game, agreed. Id love to know what really happened that season, and in that dressing room.

My fear for tomorrow is another team with zero mental resilience, who are just going to get bullied.

24.01.2026 11:27 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Not surprising, although depressing to read, that team collapsed and Claus was all over the place. Plus that thumbs up at the end.

I’ll never accept what happened that season, that team should never been anywhere near relegation. Something very rotten.

The Last 50 Years of Saints versus That Lot From Down The RoadΒ (Updated) Last Time at Fratton Time for the return fixture against that lot from down the road. This latest installment follows the damp squib that was the game at St Mary's back in September that of course ended 0-0, with virtually no goalmouth incident. This is an updated version of the blog entry on the last 50 years of the South Coast Derby, in the hope that the red half of Hampshire will be happy come Sunday afternoon.

League 1 Minus 10. The Last 50 Years of Saints versus That Lot From Down The Road (Updated). RPs appreciated.

The music here would often be particularly appropriate.

Feels quite odd to have won. There seemed to be a lot of mutual support at the end after every panicked clearance and hoof away, seemed like they were actually trying, which is a refreshing change.

We aren’t very good, still, and Azaz…. 😬

Amazing story! So many were lost, around intelligence activities especially, as secrets were kept forever long after the war ended.
