I’m with you. I’ll never ever take Michael Carricks incredible style of football for granted, but man I’d kill for the odd scrappy but solid and reassuring 1-0/2-1 win every now and again.

Very fair points. Still needs improvement however.

Sheffield United projected goals conceded is currently 26.

Leeds United’s is 30

Burnley’s is only 18.

Even though teams go up by scoring and conceding far more goals than before, the defences of the top sides are just as good as before

It’s just over 2 points per game from the final 23. Even then I don’t think it would be enough for top 2 this season. Reckon Leeds, Sheff Utd and Burnley might all hit 90+

Seeing a load of comparisons between Karanka’s promotion winning #Boro side, and Carrick’s current iteration.

The league has changed, and teams do get promoted conceding more. But this season Boro have already conceded 31 goals, the same number they conceded in ALL of 15/16. 🤯

Dissecting this was a chore and a half.

They’re a very good side, in great form, especially away from home.

A team we have to be extremely wary of.

Jonny presented a great breakdown into #Boro’s defensive issues on the pod this week.

It shows in games when we’ve dropped pts, our FB’s have been outnumbered 2v1, sometimes 3v1.

It’s a clear area of weakness Boro gotta address regardless of personnel.

Really good point on Jones Brian. Didn’t consider that. I believe he broke into the team on the left hand side too so 🤔

Giles stood out for his offensive work, that masked over his defensive short comings. But even if we were to bring Giles back, we might improve offensively, but we’re already good enough going forward, it’s defensively where we have issues. So the system needs tweaking IMO

On Borges, could he do better defensively? Yes.

But is he completely at fault? No.

It’s no coincidence #Boro have had SIX LB’s who’ve been exploited defensively in this system, including Giles.

Stock-piling another LB won’t solve anything. It’s a system issue over personnel.

Stoke City going 1 man up following a Wednesday red in the first half, only to still get beat 2-0 is the most typical Stoke thing you’ll ever see.

I honestly don’t know how their fans continue to cope.

Credit to Wednesday though, won’t be an easy task Boxing Day.

It’s a fair point. Wins vs Sunderland, Pompey, Blackburn, draws to Watford and Preston.

I really like Argyle as a club, nothing personal, just stats say you’re bottom for a lot of stats, would love nothing more than to see Argyle pick up, well, not until after this weekend obviously. But Sheff Utd away looked very promising so maybe the Whelan effect is in full force!
