The general atmosphere has been a little tense. Maybe that’s a factor.

I’m adding to it. Why are the only options to agree or disagree?

What we need from all sides in this is restraint. For nearly every single person on the Internet there is no time limit on having a spicy take about this. Restraining ourselves from being conspiracy-minded until the FBI has done their job could make a big difference.

I don’t doubt that at all. But does this increase the level of anxiety among a group of people? An anxiety that cannot ever be assuaged? This resembles the way in which cults manipulate members. Give them an impossible method to relieve their anxiety, then increase their anxiety.

I mean, true. But if it *did* then *why* would we use it for fucking chatbots?

Why couldn’t we just use that nuclear fusion to replace carbon-based energy and save the planet from becoming a barren dystopia? And after *that* then maybe we could work on some AI shit again.

What would the world look like if the creator of this video *somehow* got what they claim they want here? The only way to *really* make this happen (absent the racial purity angle) is a rejection of technology. That’s *not* going to happen. Obviously.

The light is awful when thunderstorms roll in—except on a Costa’s hummingbird. That’s when his gorget feathers turn electric.

I’m not trolling and if you’re going to accuse people of things like this you should probably find out more about them first.

How we defeat fascism matters. What the world looks like on the other side of this matters.

Not a faux version either where someone deliberately puts themselves in harm’s way to justify their own pre-conceived actions. People need to think harder about what situations they put themselves in because these bastards are going to get crafty.

It’s not in my head. Yes, the fascists will attempt to ratchet up violence regardless. Yes, you must find a way to maintain reality and civility. But violence needs to be used for exactly as you say, self-defense.

You think somehow that these are the first bullies I’ve encountered? I know they want something for cheap and that increasing the cost will cause them to reconsider. But you’re in a situation where the *wrong* move can have drastic consequences and everyone in that space needs to think about that.

Sure. But knowing in advance that every act of violence on your part will be used against you might lead the people who get put in those situations to use it sparingly and, yes, *only* in true self defense. Rather than calculatingly to display resistance.

I didn’t say that avoiding all violence would deny fascists a justification. I said that by doing violence you’re making it easier. If your side does no violence then their side has to fake it and this is something that can be pointed out.

I didn’t say not to self-defend so don’t put words in my mouth. Build your straw man someplace else.
