Repeat ad infinitum, boats against the current, time is a flat circle etc.

If the 21st century has taught us anything, it’s that brains are energetically expensive and people don’t like to use them too much. So a simple solution to a complex problem is very alluring! Unfortunately it’s almost always a lie.

It seems to be a universal human impulse to seek a strong daddy whenever the going gets tough - or possibly when times are tough people are more vulnerable to strongmen saying “complex problem is actually very simple, it is the fault of the effeminate foreign infiltrators corrupting our society”.

One would hope! But I have Seen some Things.

Russia shows us the dangers of rolling crisis -> “we need a strong man to solve this crisis!” -> strong man creates crisis - “we need a strong man to solve this crisis!” ad infinitum. I won’t say autocracy is baked in to the Russian psyche but it does seem to be their go-to political tool.
