Christians should be eager to develop their gifts, widen their opportunities, extend their influence and be given promotion in their work β not now to boost their own ego or build their own empire, but rather through everything they do to bring glory to God.β

"Ambitions for God, if they are to be worthy, can never be modest. There is something inherently inappropriate about cherishing small ambitions for God. How can we ever be content that he should acquire just a little more honour in the world?

Went out with about 20 other friends last night and did some caroling. Can not recommend this highly enough. Simple way to share the joy of the season with your neighbors. I dare you to try it!

is singing well, they actually carry the weaker singers rather than expose them. Singing in this way is a good work, a service to the Lord and a wonderful picture of His church knit together and growing.
How do we recover that?

ability than being able to enjoy singing together, which is a shame bc in my opinion good choral singing is a great picture of the church. We each have our part to sing in our different voices, and in order to sing well we need to learn how to sing together. Not only that, but when a choir...

notation much anymore so there's no need for knowing how to read music and because we can't hear each other we don't know how to sing together - matching sound level and key.
The tragedy of the situation is that I hear more from people about how unconfident they are about their singing...

that most of our singing is in the category of singalong than real choral-style.
I think a big part of that has been the transition in church music from the hymnal to the praise band. The musicians on the stage carry us along/drown us out while singing to tunes. We don't use musical...

we were treated to two more songs. The students sang loud and clear and in harmony with each other in a way that really makes me wonder whether American Christians have lost our ability to sing. Not that we don't have lots of music and not that we don't sing with, but it seems to me...

One of the things that stood out from our time in Thailand was during our visit to a Karen refugee camp in NuPo. We spent part of the day with a Bible school there which had a class of about 45 or so students btw 18-50something. When we came in they were singing a song together and then later

I am amazed/astounded/troubled by the volume of "worm theology" that I hear from Christians. We would do well to reflect on the wisdom of C. S. Lewis here: "Humility is not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less."

One more day and we're heading back home from a great 3 weeks in Thailand. We went from Chiang Mai to Mae Sot to Umphang to Latongku and back. Got to see some great ministries all along the way and even better people. Food wasn't bad either! Excited to get home though!

This is a helpful definition:
"To my mind, conservatism is gratitude. Conservatives tend to begin from gratitude for what is good and what works in our society and then strive to build on it, while liberals tend to begin from outrage at what is bad and broken and seek to uproot it."
