Recently realized that, besides 1-2 mailing lists, there isn't a blog or site tracking ancient/late antique philosophy events/news/pubs/etc. at the moment, along the lines of (say) IPM Monthly (ipmtoday.com).

Would there be any broader interest in this?

New article (open access!) out in Synthese by @marilupapandreou.bsky.social - arguing for a new Aristotelian approach to artifacts, esp. in the domain of natural philosopher instead of the metaphysician. Looks very good: link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Out today! Very pleased to see this work in the wild nowโ€”honored to have had the chance to contribute a ch. on the "bundle theory" of matter in Gregory's In hex. A must-read for late antique/early Christian philosophy readers: global.oup.com/academic/pro...

Something mysteriously fitting about Pope Francis' passing after the resurrection, so sudden and immediately, as honestly hard as it is to digest. A similar feeling to what I had with my father's own passing.

A Renaissance-style oil painting depicts Mount Vesuvius as a colossal, muscular Titan draped in flowing volcanic robes. With a solemn expression, the Titan gently spreads a glowing blanket of ash over an ancient Roman villa, symbolizing the preservation of knowledge. Inside the villa, philosophersโ€”including Philodemusโ€”are seen mid-discussion, surrounded by scrolls and statues. The scene contrasts warm, golden interior light with the dark, ash-filled sky, evoking a sense of calm amidst impending destruction.

Not sure how publicized it is here, but the Serbian govt. has cut the salaries of (I believe) all academics in public institutionsโ€”punishing prof's. for the student protests.

This is *far* worse than what's w/ academics in the US (for now). Shame on Serbiaโ€”and on western govt's. for ignoring this!
