A female north American luna moth rests on my middle finger. She has a very large, eound abdomen, which is about as wide as my finger. Her head is turning towards the camera. She has large black eyes and the space between here eyes is a buttery yellow. Her legs are dark burgundy. The fluffy scales on the outer edge of her head, ans well as her abdomen, are white. The picture is close up enough that each individual horizontal strands coming off the vertical center of the antenna are visible. The antenna are buttery yellow.

Today my backyard habitat photography #artadventcalendar: Beetles, the unsung pollinators. Beetles are incredibly cool, often as colorful and interesting as butterflies, but without wings. This is the Swamp Milkweed Leaf Beetle, which I think is adorable.

This is Bigg's Brownwing, Miletus biggsii, an amazing butterfly from Vietnam. As a caterpillar, they eat aphids!
