Saturday 3:50 pm: Big Picture Weathermap: A warm airmass with a shallow layer of gulf air will bring low cloud each morning, partly to mostly sunny afternoons Sunday, Monday, and likely Tuesday. High 60’s dawns, ~90F afternoons. Before analysis on 2nd image.

I’ve been surprised at having to draw a 60F isodrosotherm in California! Friday:

Saturday 12 noon: While most airport weather observations are still coming in from Iran, Tehran’s observations went quiet after their 8 UTC/2 am CST observation.

Saturday 8:30 am: A shallow layer of moisture with low cloud this morning. As the air in the lower atmosphere warms and stirs to a deepening depth, drier air higher up will be tapped into, clearing away the cloud deck. Mostly sunny afternoon, upper 80’s to around 90.

Friday 4:38 pm: Re the 106F temperature from the Falcon Dam coop stations…there are clear questions regarding these measurements. The 104 in La Puerta (Rio Grande City) appears good.

2)The source region will remain stationary, the Mexican Plateau deserts. Expansion north of these episodes may happen, this requires the Mexican Plateau air to arrive at the surface further away from it’s source. The more usual movement is more to the east into far south Texas.

1)Geographical constraints may preclude the expansion of how far north, and especially how far east Mexican Plateau Air can arrive at the surface. The gulf air acts as a surface over which the Mexican Plateau Air flows above as an elevated mixed layer. Expansion north may occur

Friday 3:17 pm: Big Picture Weathermap: The desert air has retreated to our west, an increasingly warm moist airmass in the lower several thousand feet of the atmosphere. Low clouds, mid 60’s dawn Saturday, clearing, upp80’s to 90F Saturday afternoon.

On second look, the temperatures from Falcon Dam appear questionable. Observation time is 8 am, meaning highs occurred on the afternoon preceding 8 am. The temperatures quoted show 90’s on what would be the 22nd-24th. A cool airmass passed thru during those days! Laredo, maps:

Friday 1:15 pm: The NWS coop site at Falcon Dam reached 106F, easily the hottest February day in the U.S. recor:

Significant snow in March 1932, winding down at time of observation on the 10th. Note that ~10 days later, it reached 100F! (Shows as 100F on the 21st, but the time of observation is 8 am, so the high was in the 24 hours ending at 8 am, meaning the afternoon of the 20th)

Friday 11:20 am: The Great Plains airmass that edged into our area is stalling out and is morphing into a warm gulf airmass, the desert air has retreated to our west. A partly to mostly sunny afternoon, upper 80’s to near 90F.

It was Laredo’s 8th 100F February day since reliable records began in the 1890’s. Our average and median first 100F in Laredo is April 12.

Friday 9:18 am: Desert air has retreated to our south and west. The airmass that has moved in is still a warm airmass with above average temperatures for the season. Partly to mostly sunny this afternoon, high 80’s, a few spots could touch 90F.

The 1986 3 days in a row to reach 100F (not 18th,19th,29th) was an amazing example of pure desert air. 50F temperature spreads including a 56F spread between a dawn TMin of 47F and an afternoon TMax of 103F:
