I guess at the heart of this is me recognizing that we've been fighting since forever, and that includes making oppressive leaders into ugly caricatures and exaggerating (sometimes not by much) their actions and behaviors. It's obvious saying it out loud but I'm starting to feel what they feel.

I mean, yes. Like obviously that's the case. But I'm just imagining like... the cartoonists during civil wars and the readers that see their work. They all knew it was kind of a lame pun, but it was still a way to find humor in a terribly awful and painful time. Poke fun at the oppressors.

It's such a silly little thing to internalize but I've started to look at older political satire from especially turbulent areas or periods of history in a different light. Simply put, it's a coping mechanism to make dead-simple jokes and laugh at the incredulity of its time.
