Obviously, my focus is on the institutional consequences that this could have (tech companies drool over easy-to-track users for years now), but this is also just harming personal safety. Anybody with harmful motives could trace your presence online given that you haven't taken precautions.

Spreading out your digital presence thru multiple accounts, emails, passwords, and platforms is a proven way to keep yourself safe and private. Instead, all your information is being funneled into centralized places, making people more easy to track.

I don't think this is the main motive for tech companies but, amongst the buzz around online privacy, people are being forced to have less alt accounts. Everything is on a "one account per person" basis which, in a way, makes things less secure.
