And as for the folks that listed "motu" as a kupu unacceptable to hear in broadcasting, in 2025, that can only be as a consequence of the racism facilitated by ACT, NZ First, and the National Party.

Would NZ join โ€˜an illegal invasionโ€™ of Iran? That question needs to be asked, Helen Clark says Speaking to Stuffโ€™s Samantha Hayes, Clark said she would โ€œvery much hopeโ€ that New Zealand does not militarily supporting what she called an โ€œillegal invasionโ€.

โ€œCertainly, thatโ€™s a question that should be asked of the prime minister and defence ministers - would they put boots on the ground to back an illegal invasionโ€ - Helen Clark. #NzPol

NZ First in particular will be working hard to make you mad about "wokeness", gender neutral bathrooms, te reo, and so forth, all while your rent goes up and your wages stagnate

โ€œThe impact on disabled people and older New Zealanders is immediate and severe.โ€

One of those reads that underline there are very real people on the other end of this governmentโ€™s consistent targeting of vulnerable communities - and those people are badly hurting.

MSD have had a systems failure that is apparently preventing them publishing benefits data. BUT, fear not friends! The IRD release (via Stats NZ) is still coming out ๐Ÿ™. So, here we go, the post-Christmas surge in people reliant on benefits is upon us. Any sign of a slowdown in that growth? [1/2]

Cleaned, gardened, cooked. Why yes, these are my coping strategies. Thinking of all the Iranians in Aotearoa, and those in Iran experiencing further violence on top of a violent regime thatโ€™s been killing people in the streets for months. Condemning outright US & Israeli aggression.

Perhaps they have revised the text, but the link at the top of this thread clearly states "the top US medical journal's editorial board..." and there was no clarification regarding the journal's editorial base in the article when I read it.

The Helen Clark Foundation had an excellent webinar on Thursday, where Helen discussed the current foreign affairs and security environment - a members-only event - but Helen delivered the type of insight that makes membership well worthwhile.

Very pleased to see Helen Clark calling the current NZ govtโ€™s response the disgrace that it is.

Simeon Brown MP

Labourโ€™s COVID-19 restrictions were some of the most stringent in the world, and Kiwis paid the price.

New Zealanders remember not being able to visit loved ones in hospital, struggling to secure a managed isolation spot just to return home, and keeping their kids home from school for months on end.

Aucklanders felt this more than most, with Labourโ€™s decisions leading to the region spending more than six months in lockdown โ€“ the longest of any region in the country.

The uncertainty, the isolation, and the toll it took on families, small business owners, and communities were all a result of decisions made during that time. Those decisions had a significant impact on everyday Kiwis, and it is important we take the time to fully understand why those decisions were made, so that any future response properly weighs the health and economic needs of all New Zealanders.

Our Government expanded a Royal Commission Inquiry into the COVID-19 response, and yesterday we received their final report. The Prime Minister has asked me to lead the Governmentโ€™s response to its recommendations โ€“ because New Zealanders deserve answers, and we are committed to making sure the lessons of that period are never forgotten.

#NZpol Iโ€™m not liking the tone or angle he takes with this. It feels like foreshadowing pushing negative views "because it was Labour".

This would be rewriting the past to suit election-year politics.

Many of us warned that the second "add-on" phase looked to include political motivations,

I'm ashamed of our government. Today supporting an illegal war is a nail in the coffin.

This is not the NZ of nuclear free, of anti apartheid, of the Treaty of Waitangi Act.

This is neo-liberals and populists run amok. Not the country I want nor that I'm willing to excuse #nzpol

That is not my point - I have published in The Lancet & I know its reputation. NPR states it's a US medical journal, but it is not. NPR is a respected voice, but they should fact check their reports - to make a simple mistake like this always undermines journalistic credibility.

Behind every number. Since 2022 the number of New Zealand children living in hardship has increased by 47,500. Seems like thatโ€™s by design.

If you want some good news that hasnโ€™t been reported, Chlรถe Swarbrick held a packed community hui yesterday called โ€œMove on to Where? Real solutions to homelessnessโ€.
Itโ€™s nice to know that there are adults in the room who realise sweeping human beings aside is not a solution and are acting to help.

I regularly come back to Sarah Kendziorโ€™s expert advice that the Trump administration is a โ€œtransnational crime syndicate masquerading as a governmentโ€ and cannot shake the thought that on multiple fronts New Zealand is behaving as if we would like in on that racket.

Our government is ok with this

Theyโ€™re fine with Israel murdering woman and children in Palestine

Theyโ€™ll be fine with Israel murdering primary school girls in Iran

Itโ€™s become normal now

Is it ok with you?

A screen shot from Facebook of Ryan Hamilton holding a bucket and wearing a big, soliciting donations for the Heart Foundation outside Hillcrest New World.

The origins of the Move On orders are from Ham East National MP, Ryan Hamilton - former Hamilton City Councillor whose council colleagues are setting up bylaws of a $20,000 fine for basically being visibly homeless.

It begs the question, who's allowed to ask for money on the street and who isn't?

What no one seems to be talking about is that there *was* a nuclear accord signed in 2015, one that Iran appeared to be keeping to โ€“ and Trump tanked it in his first term, essentially because the US had negotiated and signed it during Obama's presidency.
