We’re hiring at Princeton on AI and society, working with Arvind Narayanan or me depending on fit.
I think current AI developments are all a huge deal but am very unexcited by current state of the AGI and/or AI safety discourse.
Please share as you see fit.

Interesting to see the stats. Couple of thoughts: 1. I suspect this will continue to happen and maybe even increas as adoption increase. 2. 3 from Canada in the chart - not sure if anyone knows of any other cases in Canada. #legalai

Canada welcomes the U.S. Court of International Trade’s decision on the United States’ tariffs.
It confirmed what we’ve always held: that the American tariffs against Canadian goods are unlawful and unjustified.

It’s #LawSummerSanta2025 where lawyers exchange yummy snacks in the spirit of giving! This year I had a wonderful surprise - an immersive "Cacao is Food" tasting experience!
Thank you to my Santa Ashley for this thoughtful, delicious gift. And thank you to Sean Bawden for organizing once again.

it's jolting how little AI skepticism has reached the general public. i've had many acquaintances ask whether i use AI for research and seem shocked when i tell them it's completely useless for that purpose. my wife recently told her colleagues about hallucinations and it was news to all of them.

Scott Pelley sits down with Marc Elias tonight on 60 Minutes.
Few lawyers are willing to speak publicly about President Trump’s actions against law firms. Fear is rippling through Washington. But, despite being a target, Marc Elias is still talking. Scott Pelley sits down with him tonight on 60 Minutes.

Dr. Badar Khan Suri
I just met with legal counsel for my constituent, Dr. Badar Khan Suri.
Dr. Suri is a global conflict scholar at Georgetown who was detained without explanation by masked agents outside his Arlington home, then disappeared without due process to a prison 1,300 miles from his wife and children. 1/

What voting in Canada’s High Arctic looks like
Several operations organized by Elections Canada to get ballots to those living in remote regions, including lighthouse keepers
Voting in Canada's High Arctic:
A Hercules military transport plane brought a ballot box to the Eureka weather station.
The voting booth was the back of a pickup truck parked on the gravel runway while the Hercules waited with engines still running.

What DEI threatens isn’t merit. It’s monopoly.
Political science professor Hakeem Jefferson argues for DEI's importance to de-monopolizing universities.
A colleague at Stanford’s business school used The Stanford Daily to argue—poorly—against DEI. The piece was riddled with historical errors and left one searching for fact, so I broke my public writing hiatus to respond.
I hope you’ll read and share the piece.
