Saw folks having a moan about Ao3 again, so decided to have a brief fandom history lesson about Why and How Ao3 came to be.

It was quite literally the one time that fandoms united to push back against censorship.

An enormous ball of entangled long Furbies rolled over me and I joined with them and their thoughts, and we spent about 2 hours rolling around town, warbling, collecting litter to throw away later, contemplating the cosmos. We had a blast. I eventually fell off near the gas station and walked home.

The printer is tasked with moving the spiritual (digital) into the physical (ink on paper) and so it bridges the Cartesian divide.

Everyone I know who’s on there is in calm low-drama instances for hobbies & tech, so it works fine there, but for fandom? where at least 3% of people at any given time have 14 hours a day to spend on social media working up insanely moralised grudges over people for ship wars? noooooooooo.

lrp: why I just don’t think Mastodon will be The Place Where Fandom Mass-Migrates Next, because the idea of “Discord, except server mods can see your email & IP, read your DMs, and block you from seeing the posts of anyone associated with another server they have beef with” is untempting.

I was also on .art and it didn't sit right with me that the admin could ban ENTIRE OTHER INSTANCES WITH MY FRIENDS ON THEM, the .social one was banned because "they don't moderate the way I want them to" which, I'm sorry, is completely bonkers.

Someone's screenshot of a two-post twitter thread, from user blue (@bluewmist): the fastest way to kill motivation is to make your identity depend on the outcome. it's called ego involvement. when failing becomes failing as a person, your brain starts avoiding the whole thing. not because you don't care, but because you care too much. you don't need lower standards. you need less self-worth tangled up in your goals. the work gets easier when it's not about proving who you are.

Found this on the AO3 subreddit, and I'm about to let it change my whole life (or at least work really hard to internalize it wrt my writing).
