My daughter, who doesn't have social media, is writing an article on the expansion of Neotropic Cormorants in Ontario, Canada & hybrids between Double-crested & Neotropic Cormorants. She's struggling w/ resources on the distribution of pure birds or hybrids. Can anyone help?

Well, it's official. After our paper last year (onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....), the Slender-billed Curlew is officially declared Extinct today.

Anyway, if you've not tried hot smoked before, I can definitely recommend. Makes a mean gravlax too!

I love char so much! I dislike the taste of trout, so when I lived in Sweden I avoided char, thinking it would taste the same. I didn't realise my mistake until too late, when my PhD advisor gave me some hot smoked char for dinner one night. Sublime!

Yeah, I would do that if I were in your position. Even if it has nothing to do with the berries, 3 days is kinda long for food poisoning.

I hope it clears up soon!

Might be of limited use, because I have experience in Europe, not Alaska. But assuming that you IDed them correctly, there's no particular reason why you'd get food poisoning from the berries themselves.

I'm always wary of eating berries that are at pooping/peeing height for mammals. So watch that

Just found an absolutely stonking male Collared Flycatcher at Creachan, a species I've been dreaming of finding for years! This is the first for Barra and the third for the Outer Hebrides. #BirdingScotland #RareBirdsUK

There's something about interesting and/or experimental nests. They're apparently the most delicious for every potential predator in the area 😂

Could you get samples from all of the chicks to see if they're related? Would be cool if plovers do intraspecific brood parasitism!

Just reposting this which I think is the most gorgeous thing I have seen in my career - a critically endangered orange-bellied parrot feeding on a carpet of daisies after an ecological burn. This was the first time they’d had the chance to feed naturally in 15y and was wonderful to witness

Pied Flycatcher! 🥰🥰🥰

This will be my first year since 2012 where I'll not see a Collared Flycatcher. But at least I got to see a singing male Pied today in a woodland in central Shropshire 🪶
